Sunny Saturday's News from Dave:

Nice start to a very decent day out there, seeing Adam getting worn out and walked about , getting ready for his trip to Shangi-La-De-Da!!!  He left to Pack Ethic today; good for you big boy!! Nancy was at the controls, along with her co-pilot ( who I forget her name, already) and they buttoned up the doors, went through pre-flight routine,  did the final walkaround the aircraft and were cleared for takeoff, taxiing down Haywood Road, heading due north!!!

Rest of the  "Green team " got walked often and well by Jennifer, and  the crew hit the roads and trails with not so reckless abandon.

Great job today outta  Joanna, Kathy, Catherine, Jennifer, John , Casey (and her sunshine Band !!) and Paige, who could actually fit inside Rocco; now that's funny!!!

Rocco had outdoor run time, as well as Benjamin, Daisy Mae, Lincoln, McGee, and  Coral too. What a dream day when you got a fleet of feet to put some gravel  in your travel !!

The bulldog, Ralph, B side, nice walker, spunky, do not think he loves dogs. But  black lab mix, Rossi, gorgeous dog, looks like an Afghan Hound/Black Retriever mix, but I'm just guessing here. He likes dogs.

Tia had a chance to meet McGee for a bit. Both are sweeties. Oh, and of course, Gracie had the meet and greet to herself in between hitting the road a few times.

Champ, a terrific fella, really just a smart guy. (Of course!! He's got Border Collie in him!!) John had a chance to meet him and get out there. Also, Noah had some time in run # 4, next to McGee. He just seems like such a confident, easygoing dog, was a pleasure in the run, as well as on the road with Paige, who enjoyed him, and also the fabulously larger than the average bear, Rocco. He was good, next to Mcgee, as well. Good mix, lotta furry paws, and well-dressed  vols.

See ya next week. Hitting the highway to Vermont in the morning. Hold down the fort!! Dave

Update Sedge, now Harry, from Lisa:

Hi Lisa,

This is Harry's mom. aka Sedge...I have to whisper that name...he doesn't like it. :)

I hope you had a very Merry Christmas and are starting off with a happy new year! Just wanted to give you an update on my boy. Just when I think I can't love him more...I wake up the next day and I do. He is just such a funny boy with the sweetest personality.

A little story. I do hair and recently was in between salons. My clients were panicking and didn't care if they came to my house. I warned them that Harry is 120 lbs. of mush, but they wanted to come anyway. He thought everyone came there to see him! He was so happy with each visit and couldn't understand when we had to stop loving him. I ended up starting my own salon so my clients no longer come over. Fortunately for him, our computer was on the fritz, and our computer guy was here for 3 nights in a row for about 3 hours each night. Harry was SO happy and sat on his feet the whole time.

He had an eye issue, but thanks to Sea Girt vets and my hubby's diligence with meds, he's doing great! He is now asleep on our couch with his Daddy watching tv.

Just wanted to thank-you again for taking care of my little guy until we found each other.

Wishing you all the best in the New Year!
Tracey Mahady

P.S: This picture cracked me up. Behind Harry is his rather large dog bed. It sits on the hardwood behind him. I took the covers off to wash it, it comes apart in pieces. So I kept throwing the covers on the floor while breaking it apart. He watched me the whole time and I was about to pick the covers up to wash them...this is what he did. Too cute!

Update Ulric, now Rex, from Facebook:

Hello!!! Just an update on Rex....He is the best!!! My son wanted a sleep over so I dressed the dog in his PJ's!!!! He is such a great dog and wonderful with my son!!!

From Erma:

I received an unexpected call from Angie (the pup) new dad, he said Angie was doing great and he thought we (the Friends) were right in saving her from a rescue, he thought she was a perfect shelter adoption dog. He also inquired about Pepsi, said he said a special prayer that she would get a good home and that we should all keep up the good work that we are all special.. Made my afternoon so I thought I make yours..

Merry designed the frame that was given to Erma at the party the other night.
Although a photo of her receiving it was in the blog, the wording wasn't readable.
Here is the template for Erma's picture frame.

Dog Walking Schedule:

The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.

Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day!  Even if   you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded.  New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs.  Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards.  Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important:  Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it!  Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage.  Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all.  We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.

*Please make sure you notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week!
If you don't know your availability a week in advance and see we need help the next day, just send me an e-mail by 10 p.m. the night before, and I will put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.

Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.
Please make sure no dogs are left outside or in the meet-and-greet room when the last volunteer leaves.

REMINDER:  Every Tuesday is surgery day.  Find out who is having surgery when you come to walk the dogs.

To All Dog Walkers:
Please pay attention to the DO NOT WALK SIGNS!
If a card says do not walk, always ask management
before assuming the dog is walkable. This can change daily
depending on the dog's progress or health; therefore,

it is very important to always ask first.

FOSTER HELP NEEDED!!!
From Susan:
We are looking for volunteers to foster cats that need medical attention.  Medicine is usually administered from between 10-14 days.  This is not a very difficult thing to do.  You need a separate room to keep the cat away from your pets.
******************************************************
KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED

If interested in helping out, please contact the shelter at socaf@ochd.org.
From Susan:

To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time.  Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X.  These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.
Thank You, Susan
