Windy Thursday's Goings-on, from Dave:

Word of the day- ANEMOMETER:  A device that measures wind speed. Second word of the day -" FLORA-Dorable" A dog named Flora, who happens to be adorable.
She's on the B side, #15, first one in, who we heard was on the loose for a few weeks!!!! Flora is little skittish, very little getting out, but she has a nice pink "H" harness on and a martingale. Leave the harness on, both for her and your ease. She doesn't mind being handled, and she's another backer-upper dawg!! She wants the loveydovey and looks just like Bamber and Cara, so pay attention to who you have (well, NO ONE has Cara's ears, but anyway). Had a firm talk with her:  "Do you know how cold it was last week? What are doon out there?" Sad thing is, she did know how cold it was. Good thing she's safe in here. Underfed, needs to get healthy. But trust me, you will absolutely fall hard for her. In the meet and greet, she tried to curl up on the tiny pink bed, spilling out of it every which way, as if to say, "I don't want to be a bother, I'll just lay here, outta the way." Flora is a little head/hand shy, so get down to her level a bit. She'lll Velcro you, and you have a dog for the day!!!

Oh, what day is complete without a dose of Vitamin B(enjamin)? Hope to see actual photos in here today of the mythological creature, only previously known to us volunteers. He's the 'bigfoot' of dogs; people have heard stories about him, some have actually claimed to even seen the boy, but today, hopefully, we present visual evidence of the  Benjabumble!!! [Ed. Note:  Sorry, Dave.  No photographic evidence yet.  Maybe next week!]

Grip needs some manners. He's just a young pup and gets goofy on the walk at times. He appears to like dogs. Be firm, correctable.

Today's lineup    2- McGee 4-Cara-mi-amour (ok, ok Cara!), 5- Benj 6-Grip  8-Cleo .

Good work , Ken, Jen.

A lady brought in as a donation a big green bin of "Science Diet Senior Lite" dog food. It's in the laundry room, for anyone to take any or all of it, as the shelter doesn't like to accept open containers, but, if you know someone who can use it, take it. Quality dog food too.

B Side walkable, Cali, a yellow Lab, has skin issues, so just make sure to only use the harness hanging on her run. Wash hands your hands after her walking, too, just to be sure. She's a nice gal, walks pretty well.

Had to reassemble 2 dog doll houses today, courtesy of last night's wind. No big deal, just saying. McGee was in his topless dollhouse, really didn't care either way, like, "Hey!!! I got a SUNROOF???" Ahhh, yeahhh, suuure, McGee, that's it!!!  When you put him back in, PLEASE make sure he has a SQUEAKY toy; it's a must-have for him. What is a dog THAT absolutely gorgeous doing here still?? If he was mine, I would legally change his name to "Moo-Gee" in homage to his cow like markings. Hey!! I would!!!

Oh, Tuesday, I didn't get in. I felt lousy, a 24-hr bug. My wife said, "Maybe you got  KENNEL COUGH!!"  C'mon, will ya knock off the foolishness!!!!!

Geez, I don't think I could take 14 days on the B side!! She said she'd make it, "Okay, see ya in 2 weeks!!"  Haha. Really?      Dave.

Update Sadie, From Erma in sunny Florida:

Hi Erma,

Just wanted to send you a couple of new photos of my little princess, Sadie.  I had her at the groomer on Friday and she got a bath, nails done and a trim to tidy up her hair.  She did have a bow in it but it fell out.  I've also attached a picture of her pooped out on Sunday night after a busy day of going to Cheesequake park.  She is a living doll and we love her so much.

Her hair is really starting to grow back on her belly and legs.  She is snuggled right next to me now snoozing away.

Thanks,
Susan

Get ready!

********************************************************

Dog Walking Schedule:

The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.

Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day!  Even if   you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded.  New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs.  Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards.  Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important:  Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it!  Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage.  Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all.  We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.

*Please make sure you notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week!
If you don't know your availability a week in advance and see we need help the next day, just send me an e-mail by 10 p.m. the night before, and I will put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.

Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.
Please make sure no dogs are left outside or in the meet-and-greet room when the last volunteer leaves.

REMINDER:  Every Tuesday is surgery day.  Find out who is having surgery when you come to walk the dogs.

Rabies Clinic is the 2nd. and 4th. Wednesday of the month. Dogs must be back inside by 10:30 on Clinic days.

To All Dog Walkers:
Please pay attention to the DO NOT WALK SIGNS! If a card says do not walk, always ask management before assuming the dog is walkable. This can change daily depending on the dog's progress or health; therefore, it is very important to always ask first.

***From Cathy:  After walking the dogs on the salt covered roads and parking lot, we should wipe their paws with a towel to keep them from ingesting it and getting sick***

FOSTER HELP NEEDED!!!
From Susan:
We are looking for volunteers to foster cats that need medical attention.  Medicine is usually administered from between 10-14 days.  This is not a very difficult thing to do.  You need a separate room to keep the cat away from your pets.
******************************************************
KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED

If interested in helping out, please contact the shelter at socaf@ochd.org.
From Susan:

To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time.  Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X.  These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.
Thank You, Susan
