Mika was adopted today!

Houdi was also adopted!

**********************

From Connie:
Mika goes home!

From Dave:

Macy
Little soggy start, but the sun tried to poke through to no avail. Misty at times, chilly, but we get it done with Ken, Kristi, and myself wrangling out the herd.

Lineup: 2-Macy 4-Cara 5-Otis 6-Gracie 7-Mika 8-Kabota.

Griffin had some trail time, as well as Houdi, We put Cali in the meet and greet. With the weather as it was, we didn't want her skin getting damp or irritated. Cara's whippy tail was treated today; she got a case of "whippitosis," her lil whippy tail just a bit raw on the end. I thought about biting it back to a nice fresh piece, but ya know, rules are rules!!! No biting the dogs!!!   Ok, Ok!!!

Griffin walks very well, just be aware he doesn't like other dogs, except for Gracie. He doesn't focus, but that's the word, so just be aware. He's a nice dog overall.

Boy, I was missing McGee today, but good for him, going to Rescue Ridge. He will get a home; someone's gonna hit the jackpot when they find him. So, of course, to soothe my soul, a big pile of beautiful black & white big dog jumps into the spot just recently vacated by McGee in the form of  MACY, who is good gal. She walks like a dream, supposedly not great with other dogs, but did fine out in run #2, and I ran her out a bunch of times to get her settled in to the place. Loves to play with the rope toy, will sit and shake paws. Macy is run # 1 A side. She has those nice white sox and a dipped in paint tail. You will enjoy your time with her. And if you look closely  at her, she's not really black. She's like mahogany or like a racehorse chestnut .

I got a desktop day by day calender like I do every year, dog related. but this year, its all "sleeping dogs", and there isn't much cuter than a snoozing dog or cat now, is there?

Maureen bathed a newly arrived Yorkie and put a bow in her hair. Walkable, as well is the Chinese Crested/Llasa (?) mix. Sounds crazy, but a nice looking little dog.

Oh, Kabota!! Just be careful, looks like an old healed /scarred patch on his collar area. Doesn't seem to bother him, but just noticed while taking off the 2nd martingale today. And also, go easy, his hips or rear area is reported to be sensitive as well.

Dog Walking Schedule:

The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.

Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day!  Even if   you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded.  New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs.  Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards.  Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important:  Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it!  Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage.  Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all.  We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.

*Please make sure you notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week!
If you don't know your availability a week in advance and see we need help the next day, just send me an e-mail by 10 p.m. the night before, and I will put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.

Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.
Please make sure no dogs are left outside or in the meet-and-greet room when the last volunteer leaves.

REMINDER:  Every Tuesday is surgery day.  Find out who is having surgery when you come to walk the dogs.

Rabies Clinic is the 2nd. and 4th. Wednesday of the month. Dogs must be back inside by 10:30 on Clinic days.

To All Dog Walkers:
Please pay attention to the DO NOT WALK SIGNS! If a card says do not walk, always ask management before assuming the dog is walkable. This can change daily depending on the dog's progress or health; therefore, it is very important to always ask first.

***From Cathy:  After walking the dogs on the salt covered roads and parking lot, we should wipe their paws with a towel to keep them from ingesting it and getting sick***

FOSTER HELP NEEDED!!!
From Susan:
We are looking for volunteers to foster cats that need medical attention.  Medicine is usually administered from between 10-14 days.  This is not a very difficult thing to do.  You need a separate room to keep the cat away from your pets.
******************************************************
KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED

If interested in helping out, please contact the shelter at socaf@ochd.org.
From Susan:

To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time.  Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X.  These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.
Thank You, Susan
