Too Cold Tuesday's Frigid Facts, From Dave:

Well, oh my! The thermometer this morning reported 20 degrees, so  my morning began with the cry of, "Honey!! Where are my long johns ??"  Which was answered with the statement that after living in the house for almost 13 years, I should know by now where my stuff is. Still don't know where the scotch tape or the scissors are either, but whatever!!!

The place was totally covered with a blanket of white, but enough about the darn SALT!!!! Totals are in: 1 measly inch of snow, 2 inches of salt. Geesh!!! But oh the trails were beautiful today, and really, 20 isn't bad when walking and you are dressed for it.

Good work from Ken, Sarah, Paula, and Janice. Cleo went in for surgery, so be aware of that tomorrow  be easy, McGee, Benjamin, Cody, Bamber, and Cara all got out there, sweatered up and all. Bamber and Cara not loving the icy wind, either. I put McGee out in run #2 and Benji in run#4, and spent an hour going back and forth with each of them. They didn't appear to mind the cold a bit, really. McGee was rolling in the snow, said Janice , while out walking, and being his cute self, popping in and out of the igloo, and his doghouse, out there in the run.

Took Benji on a really nice trail walk, and he is a different creature out on the end of a leash. He ain't perfect, but he does like the jaunts!! He found a red balloon on the walk and enjoyed carrying it for about, oh, 6 seconds till  KABLOOEY! You should've seen the look on his face when the inevitable pop occurred--big bad boy, scared of a little balloon!

McGee was elegant in the dark green wool coat, fits nice and looks good, too. Bamber ended up in the meet and greet all snuggly.

There was a big, gorgeous Malamute, but is to be reclaimed today, a perfect dog for the day, lovely  dog.

By  the time noon rolled around, it was up to about 24 degrees, and all good work was wrapped up. The harnesses were hung by the runs they belong to, and tuckered pups were tucked in!

From Erma:

Just received a call from the woman who adopted Lincoln.
She is alone, lost her son in October and came to the shelter
to fill a void.  She's a nurse and works the night shift, has 3 cats
lives on SS and part nursing.  Anyway, her cats didn't come home
for a few days when Lincoln arrived she told them they all  have to
get along or else.
She was crying with joy how happy Lincoln has made her and now
they all sleep on the bed together.  Lincoln is older and couldn't get
on the bed so she bought him steps.  Heartwarming.

Dog Walking Schedule:

The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.

Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day!  Even if   you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded.  New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs.  Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards.  Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important:  Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it!  Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage.  Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all.  We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.

*Please make sure you notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week!
If you don't know your availability a week in advance and see we need help the next day, just send me an e-mail by 10 p.m. the night before, and I will put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.

Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.
Please make sure no dogs are left outside or in the meet-and-greet room when the last volunteer leaves.

REMINDER:  Every Tuesday is surgery day.  Find out who is having surgery when you come to walk the dogs.

Rabies Clinic is the 2nd. and 4th. Wednesday of the month. Dogs must be back inside by 10:30 on Clinic days.

To All Dog Walkers:
Please pay attention to the DO NOT WALK SIGNS! If a card says do not walk, always ask management before assuming the dog is walkable. This can change daily depending on the dog's progress or health; therefore, it is very important to always ask first.

FOSTER HELP NEEDED!!!
From Susan:
We are looking for volunteers to foster cats that need medical attention.  Medicine is usually administered from between 10-14 days.  This is not a very difficult thing to do.  You need a separate room to keep the cat away from your pets.
******************************************************
KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED

If interested in helping out, please contact the shelter at socaf@ochd.org.
From Susan:

To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time.  Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X.  These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.
Thank You, Susan
