Today was a quiet day with no adoptions, but there are many feel-good stories below.
***************************************
From Connie:

I have some awesome news to share with everyone........WE ARE AWESOME!!!!! and thats what i was told!!! Last years numbers are in and well WE ROCK!!!! All totals are not final yet but close!! Our euth rate dropped almost in half!!! So YOU DO MAKE
A DIFFERENCE!!!! We adopted out 271 dogs!!! 319 reclaimed!!! They wanted to share how all our hard work pays off and they want to say THANKS TO ALL!! for all we do to make a difference!~!!! This made my day!!! Hope it makes yours..♥

From Joanna:

I asked Eric how things are going with Adam, and he responded with this :

Adam is amazing, he is so obedient and loves to play with others. He is very submissive and he only wants to follow and please. Sasha will be staying with the family who has been fostering her, we had someone who was interested in her but when they went to meet her she was very scared and timid and the family felt bad so they will keep her:) Everyone else is doing great, we have a meet and greet tomorrow for Tinker and Rebel. Rebel is definitely going home, fingers crossed for Tinker. Amy is a little doll, she has a friend in my boy Dante, Rex is a lover and he loves playing with Bell and Rocky and Bruiser are with the pack. Nikko is a big goof who loves to bounce around, he doesn't realize he is so big. Hope all is well with you guys.

I knew I forgot someone:) Val and Murph are always good, it is unreal that so many are put off by them. It is awesome for us because we get to enjoy them everyday but it is bullshit that no one gives them a chance. Amy will probably join them since she looks like a small black power house:) Thank you guys for all that you do.

Rocco's Ride, from Facebook:

Rocco's freedom ride home!! Joanna and Connie, I can't thank you enough for him! My heart skips a beat every time I look at him. We are connected at the hip already!! Lots of nubby wags and belly rubs....thanks to all at the shelter who spent time and loved him until I could meet him...and bring him HOME!! Updates coming soon! Tomorrow is his intro to his pack...Linda has so graciously offered her time and service to ensure all goes well...I have no worries!! I will sleep well tonight, with a happy heart!!

Owen and his "boy:" from Erma:

Perhaps the best news yet, from Connie:

 Kale the Wonder Dog!

A tale of two dogs from Connie:

Senior dogs, in my opinion, are the best!  They are always so grateful!

I received a phone cal from Kale's Mom yesterday. At first, I thought, Oh No...

Kale is a senior Chihuahua that we adopted out last year who had some minor health issues, but a senior nonetheless.

Joanne said, "I went to Philadelphia for a doctor's appointment and left Kale with my Mom (They hit it off instantly) and told her not to walk him; he will be okay.  Mom is 89!

Well as it goes, Mom walked him anyway, and she took a fall.  Little Kale stayed by her side for four hours, barking whenever he heard someone. Finally, the neighbor heard it, and little Kale was found with Mom, shivering, but he refused to leave her side!

Well I don't have to say tears where running down my face just thinking of the two of then out there!   Both Kale and "Mom" are okay! We can't thank you enough for letting us adopt him....he is truly a Wonder Dog!"

Way to go Kale!!!

So, just because a dog is elderly, it doesn't mean his life isn't worth saving. Kale thought Mom's was. They saved each other.

Update Nikki:

I called Nikki's new Mom and Dad to check on a vet appointment and to see how her first night was.   Nikki's Mom was elated with her!  She said, "She jumped in bed with us like she has been here her whole life!

"We couldn't be happier with this girl. She loves the sunshine and loves being outside. We are 100% in love!!"

Yeah!! Another elder dog finds a home!!

The next time you go to adopt a dog, Dont forget the "elder senior dogs. They will fill your heart with love and joy, and they may just save your life, too!

Dog Walking Schedule:

The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.

Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day!  Even if   you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded.  New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs.  Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards.  Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important:  Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it!  Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage.  Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all.  We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.

*Please make sure you notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week!
If you don't know your availability a week in advance and see we need help the next day, just send me an e-mail by 10 p.m. the night before, and I will put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.

Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.
Please make sure no dogs are left outside or in the meet-and-greet room when the last volunteer leaves.

REMINDER:  Every Tuesday is surgery day.  Find out who is having surgery when you come to walk the dogs.

Rabies Clinic is the 2nd. and 4th. Wednesday of the month. Dogs must be back inside by 10:30 on Clinic days.

To All Dog Walkers:
Please pay attention to the DO NOT WALK SIGNS! If a card says do not walk, always ask management before assuming the dog is walkable. This can change daily depending on the dog's progress or health; therefore, it is very important to always ask first.

FOSTER HELP NEEDED!!!
From Susan:
We are looking for volunteers to foster cats that need medical attention.  Medicine is usually administered from between 10-14 days.  This is not a very difficult thing to do.  You need a separate room to keep the cat away from your pets.
******************************************************
KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED

If interested in helping out, please contact the shelter at socaf@ochd.org.
From Susan:

To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time.  Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X.  These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.
Thank You, Susan
