Hazel was adopted today!

**************************

From Erma:  Hazel goes home:

I spoke to Ray, Freckles dad. They are getting along great. Freckles spends her
day chasing rabbits in his yard.
Millie is also doing great. She has skin allergies and is on meds.

Hazel went home to a great family who lost their pit 6 months ago.

Do not leave Tia alone outside. She scaled the fence to visit
Lincoln with ease. Thank goodness it was Lincoln and not Nikki.
She made Val look like an amateur.

Sad news from Fran:

At 1:56 pm on Monday, Hope passed away in my arms. She was 19 years old and lived with us for 19 months. For everyday of life, she gave me Hope. Old, blind and deaf she loved life. She loved playing in the grass and the breeze on her face. I will miss her so much but I am happy she passed with love and dignity. RIP my love. You will always be my Hope.

RIP, sweet Hope.  You were loved.

From Dave, Yesterday's Happy New "Ears"

Well. Happy New Year out there!!   Looks like snow is in the air; the day has that feel.  I think 40 is the new 50, at least in degrees. I must be getting used to the cooler weather; really not bad walking at all.

Today's lineup was: 2- Nikki, 4-Adam 5- Benjamin 6-Hazel, 7- McGee 8- Lincoln.  Gracie spent time in the meet and greet. It looks like her stitches may need some attention; nothing bad, but she'll be attended to. Can't tell if it's bothering her, because she is nice as can be in there, and playful.

Daisy Mae and Coral were taken for a stroll. They are easier by the day--nice, mature dogs. Tia, young black with a little white Pittie, run# 15, was out a few times. A classic young pit lady. Sweet.

Oh, the new crew down from NOCAF is downright one of the sweetest groups around. I mean, Nikki, Rosie, Adam, Benji, great looking dogs no doubt. But holymoley, McGee, a black and white Akita/Pit mix, has a little moomoo cow in him also, has great big round spots, like you traced them on him!!! He is an absolute stunner, and he loves dogs and is a pleasure to walk. And omigosh, HAZEL! White pittygirl with a little hint of tan spots on tail and ears, is a dollbaby loveydoodle! She is a cuddler!!! Got that beautiful Casper face on her, and that's quite a compliment. Put the nice red sweater on her. She looked so toasty and nice. Lincoln is an older Swiss mountain dog, likes to move slow, may have some hip issues. Nice easy fellow to walk. Likes dogs too.

Rocco, or  the "Rocco of Gibralter", had quite the walk with me. He has the largest paws ever. Tthey completely hide your hand. He will sit and shake hands, but you may want to have a catcher's mitt ready to catch his paw!!! Sweetums.

Don't forget about Sadie, Spike and Bamber, too. Easily walked dogs.

Good work Ken, Jennifer, and Catherine!!
Dave

Dog Walking Schedule:

The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.

Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day!  Even if   you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded.  New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs.  Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards.  Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important:  Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it!  Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage.  Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all.  We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.

*Please make sure you notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week!
If you don't know your availability a week in advance and see we need help the next day, just send me an e-mail by 10 p.m. the night before, and I will put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.

Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.
Please make sure no dogs are left outside or in the meet-and-greet room when the last volunteer leaves.

REMINDER:  Every Tuesday is surgery day.  Find out who is having surgery when you come to walk the dogs.

To All Dog Walkers:
Please pay attention to the DO NOT WALK SIGNS!
If a card says do not walk, always ask management
before assuming the dog is walkable. This can change daily
depending on the dog's progress or health; therefore,

it is very important to always ask first.

FOSTER HELP NEEDED!!!
From Susan:
We are looking for volunteers to foster cats that need medical attention.  Medicine is usually administered from between 10-14 days.  This is not a very difficult thing to do.  You need a separate room to keep the cat away from your pets.
******************************************************
KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED

If interested in helping out, please contact the shelter at socaf@ochd.org.
From Susan:

To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time.  Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X.  These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.
Thank You, Susan
