Walking help needed tomorrow and Friday afternoons.
Please e-mail me if you can help.
**************************
To all my friends:
As you all know, I'm moving to Florida and have been putting off the actual
date for some time now, and Sandy helped me a lot, as I was able to stay a few
more months. But now it's time. This coming weekend will be my last weekend,
as we will be departing January 24th to sunny Florida.
I will miss all of you more than words can say. You all have become the best
friends I have ever had in my entire life, and I've been around a long time.
You are all the most compassionate, hardworking people I have ever met.
When it comes to helping the animals, nothing gets in your way. You are all
like bulldozers.
We are a great team, and I know that when I am gone, someone will step up and
fill in the gap and keep our team strong.
Dottie Reynolds, our President, is the most generous person I know. Without
her. we wouldn't be able to do what we do so well.
It was an honor to be part of your group. You will always be in my heart.
Sincerely,
Erma
Update Coral:
Erma,
She did great at the vet. Very social and the vet gave her a shot to help with her skin. My son and his fiancee met her last night, she was great. We did decide to rename her. Her name is going to be Roxie. I don't know if you need to put that in your files. My husband didn't really like the name Coral. My daughter and I did but we agreed to the name change. She doesn't seem to mind and is already responding to Roxie. She is great, we are so happy to have her!!!

Wow, what a nice news day there in the newsletter!! Lot of good stuff. Daisy and Diego, out the door! They look very similar to me. I would have to have different color collars on them to distinguish them. I'd be mixed up in no time.
Noah, as handsome a dog as can be, good mannered, was at ease next to Benji, glad for him, as well as Coral, a bit of an 'underdog'. Someone saw through a little bit of scruff, down to a nice dog.
Nice to hear that little Sadie is someone's shadow. Poor little mushmouse. I felt so bad the day I saw her, like "What's a little mouse like yoooou doon here, in the big boy factory?? "
Isn't it neat to see Rocco/Joe, Guiness, and Buddha at home? I wanted to reach into the computer and give Buddha a lil pinch on his big licorice nose!! And Rocco, we all knew he would be soooo loved, he with his snowshoe paws and big old head of wrinkles. I really enjoyed any time spent with him.
To see the playful Guinness have a chance to play with a pal is great too. A playful Doberman? Ya never know what you're gonna experience around here.
Hey, Tinkerbell!! Going home, nice story there too. Isn't it amazing that when dogs get to be just dogs with others, in a pack, with good supervision, and leadership, they just 'get it'. Thanks Eric for making good things happen up there!! Must hand them all out a little rule book when they march in. Apparently, they read it!!!
If Crusher (such a misnamed dog!! How 'bout Fuzzy or, oh never mind) isn't the cutest German Shepherd with that floppy ear, or what??
Good to see good animals go home. Really love when people send that stuff in to us, so please, keep sending in reports from the homefront. It's the real icing on the cake and the positive reinforcement that we all love to see.
I opened up a freshly delivered postal box full of Martingale collars and leashes and hung them up, and I organized the harnesses a bit. Stopped by for an hour, hardly touched a dog, (I said 'hardly'. It's impossible not to say hello to the crew. The last outdoor run, #8, "Alcatraz" as it's referred to, was out of commission with the gate latch damaged, but I picked up 2 at the fence place and had the Alcatraz gate is fixed as of 3:00 p.m.
Joan J was there. She worked with Champ, McGee and the nice tan and white B side walkable Not Cody, hmmm? escapes me now. So, then I took McGee and Cody out for walks. There are light green poop bags, not the roll out type, but we'll take it until the order comes in. They are in the box type dispenser, up on the martingale/harness baskets, and more in box on locker room floor. Dave
Noah goes home!

Tuesday's Update from Dave:
Brand new Bloodhound in named Red. He went right into surgery to be neutered. He's one of the new kids from NOCAF.
Nice work Ken, who helped Janet with some OJT (on the job training), and Janice.
Lineup was as follows: 2-DaisyMae , 4- 5-Benjamin 6- Champ( how is he still here??) Meet and Greet, Bamber, then at noon, Foxylady, who is a nice dog when she's in relaxed situation, liked meet and greet. So I stayed with her a bit in there, as well as the staff who were fooling with her.
First thing I did when I got in today was to tell Trish that Cleo's EARS were like that!! I didn't do any "excessive ear nibbling." She came in with them cropped!! I would be the usual suspect, followed by Casey, who is foldie ear lover too. Her cuteness pushes right through though. She is a "Pully Bully " though, so I utilized a purple "H" harness on her. She's a neat one.She is B Side # 20.
Codie, who isn't allowed around others, apparently likes Cleo. He shows no problem walking past her, but that's the word, so abide by that. Codie walks like a breeze, very cute woof. Real nice. Nice walker. She is B Side, #15.
McGee wasn't keen on Benjaman today, so we rotated him out of run #4 and walked his tail off. Well, he has his tail, but you know what I mean.
Bamber has certainly filled out nicely, hasn't she? And not due to the holidays either, as I suspect that's a lot of our excuses.
HEY!! THE GREEN POOP BAGS ARE HERE!!!!! Oops, sorry to overreact, but the green bags are in. I unloaded them out of the county car. I was just so excited to get a box of bags, aren't you too?? The light green bags can still be used up, and I'm sure they will be. So, we are stocked up.The light green bags smell like lavender, someone pointed out. Which was quickly followed by " Not for long they won't!!" Well, true, true!! Trish said they have an additional dispenser pole and garbage bin attached to set up. I think it's going to be set up near old run # 1 was, near the bench, on gravel. Any better ideas? Would down the road near the big robocan work better?? Hmmm, anyone have a thought on that?
Patty R stopped by, shockingly, to see the Dachshund!!! She's got a pair now. Go ahead, mix a third one in, Patty!!! Don won't even notice!!! hahahah.
And for just the very experienced walkers, Benji has been getting out and about, and he is a little pleasure out on the trails!! Lil Chubby enjoyed it immensely. (HIM!!! Not me!! Well, I mean, I enjoyed it too, but HE'S the lil chubby I was referring to!!)
Okee dokee, when you start a day with Codie and Cleo, that's like a dose of instant sunshine!!! You don't even notice the clouds!! Good day all around. Dave

Dog Walking Schedule:
The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.
Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day! Even if you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded. New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs. Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards. Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important: Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it! Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage. Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all. We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.
*Please make sure you notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week!
If you don't know your availability a week in advance and see we need help the next day, just send me an e-mail by 10 p.m. the night before, and I will put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.
Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.
Please make sure no dogs are left outside or in the meet-and-greet room when the last volunteer leaves.

Rabies Clinic is the 2nd. and 4th. Wednesday of the month. Dogs must be back inside by 10:30 on Clinic days.
To All Dog Walkers:
Please pay attention to the DO NOT WALK SIGNS! If a card says do not walk, always ask management before assuming the dog is walkable. This can change daily depending on the dog's progress or health; therefore, it is very important to always ask first.

FOSTER HELP NEEDED!!!
From Susan:
We are looking for volunteers to foster cats that need medical attention. Medicine is usually administered from between 10-14 days. This is not a very difficult thing to do. You need a separate room to keep the cat away from your pets.
******************************************************
KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED
If interested in helping out, please contact the shelter at socaf@ochd.org.
From Susan:
To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time. Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X. These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.
Thank You, Susan

Special Thanks to Jennifer for taking these pics and for keeping us updated as to which cats are where.
