Thursday's Update from Dave:
Glad to have a bit of a dried out day with the chance of snow looming for tomorrow. I think the crew there would enjoy it, though.
The new green poop bag dispenser and attached pail was being assembled and secured in place over where old run # 1 used to be (the gravel area and the bench). So, that'll be good for morning walks when you head out in that direction.
Thanks, Ken, Jen, and Paige. Good walk work.
The Bloodhound, Red, may be moving on to a new career in law enforcement! He's a playful, gorgeous boy, lots of terrific bloodhound wrinkles, and that classic sweet sad face .Whole staff seems to have fallen in love with him. He had surgery Tuesday.
Today's lineup was 2- DaisyMae, 4-Jade, 5-Benjamonkey ,6-Champ, 7-Cody , 8- McGee.
Bamber had the meet and greet, and Cleo had a good long walk. You may want to use a chain leash. She gets distracted from the walk and acts up a little, so give that a try.
Jade is as pretty as any one of those American Bulldogs we have encountered in the past.Wow, what a nice, behaved lass. She will bring a tennis ball back to you forever, so have fun with her. She's that classic orangey tan and white with the 2 differently speckled ears, she's a doll.
Cara, a Bamber lookalike, like a miniature Doberman mix, omigosh, what a goofus maximus! She's got the CRAZIEST ears; they change directions; they are ridiculous!!! They point straight ahead at times, like a bull ready to charge, then go straight out sideways, and with a decent gust of wind, she's ready to fly, and, wait , it gets better!!! They also FOLD over on top of her head onto each other, like a fighter jet on an aircraft carrier when they fold the wings over for parking. She is a nice cuddly dog, Cara is a backerupper, right into you, wants snuggle time. Wait till you see some photos Joanne took of her today!!! Oh, they also, I don't know why or how, can both point to the same side, like the wind blew them over. I don't get it, but I like it!!!
Have you noticed the handsome McGee wants to carry a squeaky toy with him during walks?
Now, Bamber and Cara may have been a couple of dogs I may have mistakenly not paid enough attention to. (I have been accused of favoring the Prom Queens!!! Haha, yeah, and Ihave a weakness for the black and whites too.) But they are such cuties. They have totally grabbed me and others. Just be careful, as they can be confused for each other, except for the ears of course.
And a little white/cream Pomeranian mix got reclaimed when we were there too. She had a case of "Pie eyes" this morning. Like "gee whillikers, where the heck was I running away from!! get me home on that couch again NOW!!" Another day, another dog. Dave

Dog Walking Schedule:
The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.
Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day! Even if you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded. New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs. Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards. Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important: Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it! Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage. Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all. We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.
*Please make sure you notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week!
If you don't know your availability a week in advance and see we need help the next day, just send me an e-mail by 10 p.m. the night before, and I will put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.
Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.
Please make sure no dogs are left outside or in the meet-and-greet room when the last volunteer leaves.

Rabies Clinic is the 2nd. and 4th. Wednesday of the month. Dogs must be back inside by 10:30 on Clinic days.
To All Dog Walkers:
Please pay attention to the DO NOT WALK SIGNS! If a card says do not walk, always ask management before assuming the dog is walkable. This can change daily depending on the dog's progress or health; therefore, it is very important to always ask first.

FOSTER HELP NEEDED!!!
From Susan:
We are looking for volunteers to foster cats that need medical attention. Medicine is usually administered from between 10-14 days. This is not a very difficult thing to do. You need a separate room to keep the cat away from your pets.
******************************************************
KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED
If interested in helping out, please contact the shelter at socaf@ochd.org.
From Susan:
To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time. Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X. These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.
Thank You, Susan
SOCAF's Gallery of Glorious Cats
Special Thanks to Jennifer for taking these pics and for keeping us updated as to which cats are where.

Hi Dog Walkers, If you will, please get the days and times you will be able to walk dogs in the upcoming week to Joanne Eckert no later than Sunday night each week. I need to turn in the schedule to the HD on Monday mornings. Thanks so much for volunteering your time for the animals! It is greatly appreciated!!

Love our dogs? Then adopt one as a Shelter Pup and FRIENDS will get a portion of the sale! Shelter Pups has turned a select group of dogs from our shelter into amazing and realistic plush pups. Check out Casper and wonderful Sherman! It's a great way to “adopt” one of our dogs and help our volunteer FRIENDS group at the same time. Shelter Pups can also make customs of your very own dog. Check it out and bring one of our dogs home as a Shelter Pup!
