If anyone knows where the pink collar Lanie was wearing when she was returned was placed, please make sure it is in a safe location so it can go to her new home along with the matching leash when she is adopted.
Thanks.

From Linda Bonvie, Cat Update:

Rainbow; Fritz; Ace; Buddy; Baby; Sandy; Owen; Mojo; Chester and Bebe were all relocated to St. Hubert's in Madison, N.J. Trish said it was okay for me to note that on their petfinder listings in case someone who looked before was interested. Also spoke with Becky at St. Huberts' today and she said they are all at intake there and will be moved to the adoptable area when space opens up. Apparently they are keeping the names the same.

From Dave:

What a wonderful April day, except for the fact it fell on ta December morning. Tooo warm for me, I'm thinking snow and skiing, and was already getting comfy in those 45-50 degree days, walking pupperroos.

There is a little change, and I agree with it, and hope it ends some confusion on who is/is not walkable. A daily sheet was posted up on the entry to the A (remember, class... A side, Available, Adoptable, and B side, Be careful, Be aware, Be advised, Be cautious). So, you will see who is good to go. Bit of a lag with rabies shots, with the Vet  on vacation, so be patient.

Some good woofs are being readied up .I was given a lovely little leeway with a couple of "not ready for A sides walkables."  Olive, the American Bull Terrier, who is slated for rescue, she walked with a bounce in her bumble little self, super housebroken, so staff will walk her, she actually had no hesitation coming back, and enjoyed a "Poco-like " crawl in the grass. Has been using her magnetic door too.

Another very very well behaved, soft as suede, what a little gentleman, the lovely Butch, still needs vaccinations, but when he is walkable, I think there will be a line out the door to not only walk him, but adopt him.  He looks so much like my galpal, Ginger, just lighter shade of pitmix. GRRREAT puppy, who acts older and refined.

And, Angie, pay attention to her. You cannot wait to walk those two together. There is also a little tiger cub of a Pit Brindle, ferociously named "Kisses." What a little Hyena!!! Still need vac/temperament test (ok, here's the temperament test...her name is KISSES for goodness sakes!!!) Omigosh, another that  I'm sure you will run in and grab in the morning as soon as she's A sided up.

So, good work all around, Ken, Janice, and Carol, who got the A siders out and about !!  Lanie is A side. I had lotta quality time with all, give her some good time and love, that's a nice gal, that  cow-colored sweetie.

Oh!!!! There are 3 Llasa Apsos, an adult and 2 younger ones, the two younger are on A side, same run, and the adult male has a run by himself; hey, 3's a crowd. They spent the morning all together in run# 8. Just be aware of the squiggle factor when you are trying to manage multiple paws at once.

And a black and white, Shih Tzu ( see the spelling? it's not the 'bad 'word-tzu, so just saying) was found in the office helping Trish, a little Maltese mixed in too? Hmmm, I dunno. But that's a wrap, for today.   Dave

From SOCAF Management:
All dogs need to be walked with two leashes at all times, whether they are being walked from the pen to their runs, or just a few feet.  No excuses, please!

The dogs must be on county property at all times when being walked.  They cannot be walked IN the street or across the street.

Smoking is not allowed while walking dogs.

NEW:  When walking dogs, please do not allow dogs to jump up onto any vehicles.
**********************************************************
TO ALL VOLUNTEERS:
If you see a dog limping, notice a lump, blood in the stool, etc., anything out of the ordinary, or if there is an incident with the dog, be sure to notify the supervisors, document the incident, and put it into the dog's file, keeping a copy for yourself.
********************************************************

Dog Walking Schedule:

Please check the dog-walking schedule below.
There are many days and time slots with little or no coverage.
Please e-mail me with the days and times you are able to cover.
If no one can cover, the dogs will either not get out in the morning or have to go back inside early on those days.
The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.

Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day!  Even if   you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded.  New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs.  Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards.  Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important:  Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it!  Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage.  Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all.  We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.

*Please make sure you notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week!
If you don't know your availability a week in advance and see we need help the next day, just send me an e-mail by 10 p.m. the night before, and I will put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.

Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.

REMINDER:  Every Tuesday is surgery day.  Find out who is having surgery when you come to walk the dogs.

To All Dog Walkers:
Please pay attention to the DO NOT WALK SIGNS!
If a card says do not walk, always ask management
before assuming the dog is walkable. This can change daily
depending on the dog's progress or health; therefore,

it is very important to always ask first.

FOSTER HELP NEEDED!!!
From Susan:
We are looking for volunteers to foster cats that need medical attention.  Medicine is usually administered from between 10-14 days.  This is not a very difficult thing to do.  You need a separate room to keep the cat away from your pets.
******************************************************
KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED

If interested in helping out, please contact the shelter at socaf@ochd.org.
From Susan:

To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time.  Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X.  These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.
Thank You, Susan
