Chilly, Windy Saturday from Dave:
Not much to report here, just John, Kathy, and me out and about. We put together the wind-tossed dog playhouses, and sweatered up some dogs for walks. Adam, and Millie are pals, as well as Angie and Millie, for your info. Wind was whipping, 45 degrees. It felt colder, i tell you, 50 degrees and still, is the perfect walk weather, but I believe winter is here. So, i think I'll be heading to that store in Lacey for flannel lined carharrt jeans. Hey, comfort is job 1, job 2 is, of course, job 2. I inquired about the green bags, and they have been ordered, but if you pick up a multi-roll at Petsmart or TJMaxx, its appreciated. We are in need of a resupply in two areas: leashes, and the new style martingales (chain and fabric). I would check the deckbox that is inside a shed, but it has a ton of stuff on it, just impossible to get to right now. Hmmm, imagine if that weather-tight deckbox that's made for outside deck storage could actually be placed in, say, an exterior location unencumbered by all the stuff that needs to sheltered in an interior local....hmmmm? Nah, that's ridiculous!! Never mind. Oh well, can't blame a guy for dreaming!!
Oh, and Adam, good work, John!! He does sit and shake left paw and seems to really want to behave, but he does have a little puppy in there, too. Handsome dog. When you get marching with him, like a lot of woofs, he gets better the more gravel you travel. Dave

Dog Walking Schedule:
The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.
Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day! Even if you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded. New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs. Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards. Red walkers' names in red type.

Important: Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it! Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage. Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all. We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.
*Please make sure you notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week!
If you don't know your availability a week in advance and see we need help the next day, just send me an e-mail by 10 p.m. the night before, and I will put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.

FOSTER HELP NEEDED!!!

We are looking for volunteers to foster cats that need medical attention. Medicine is usually administered from between 10-14 days. This is not a very difficult thing to do. You need a separate room to keep the cat away from your pets.

To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time. Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X. These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.

All new walkers may walk green dogs on their own once they have gone through orientation. New walkers may walk yellow dogs once they have been with a red walker and told by the red walker they are okay to move on.

From SOCAF Management:
All dogs need to be walked with two leashes at all times, whether they are being walked from the pen to their runs, or just a few feet. No excuses, please!
The dogs must be on county property at all times when being walked. They cannot be walked IN the street or across the street.
Smoking is not allowed while walking dogs.
NEW: When walking dogs, please do not allow dogs to jump up onto any vehicles.

TO ALL VOLUNTEERS:
If you see a dog limping, notice a lump, blood in the stool, etc., anything out of the ordinary, or if there is an incident with the dog, be sure to notify the supervisors, document the incident, and put it into the dog's file, keeping a copy for yourself.
