Guinness went to rescue today!
**************************
Most of us are focused on the animals most of the time, but on this day and on a personal note, my heart and thoughts are in Connecticut. May the families affected and the entire community of Newtown find comfort and peace through the prayers of so many.

Thursday's News from Dave:
Tuesday, surgery day, I was just about to leave at noon, when I stumbled upon the cutest sight. Angie was just rousing from her sleep and surgery, and omigosh, there ain't NOTHING cuter than a little stumblebumble sleepy piteroo puppy. So ya know what I did?? I crawled right in with her and laid down on her comforter for two reasons. 1) how could I not? and 2) , it was probably the only time you could get where that lil rhino wasn't charging around full speed ahead!! Some days, it's just pure luck!! So, she was all sleepy and dreamy, and I just wanted to make sure she was okay (suuuuuurrre!) and Angie slowly drifted back into a little nap. Which, of course, when I got her out today, I was looking for the rhinoceros tranquilizer dart gun for her!! Well, not really, but she lives life at one speed... GO!
I would like to spend one day looking at the world from behind the eyes of a Pittie puppy, because every candy wrapper blowing by, every leaf, is a new adventure!!
She got hold of a stick, and then she was happy that she had a task and walked terrifically, dragging the stick all the way back. Angie, she brings the grin out of you!!
Oh, have you seen Adam, B side walkable, run # 22? Well, picture in your mind Pocohontas!! He's a 4/5th size male version, with the EARS of course to match. Ok, now you have to delete that image outta your mind, in accordance with the new rule as per pictures and all. HEY!!! You too, Linda. I see you're still thinking about it. C'mon, DELETE!! OK, thank you!! See ya on the end of the leash!!! Dave

As per management, we are no longer allowed to photograph dogs which do not legally belong to the shelter and have not yet been spayed or neutered. The old rule was that such photos could not be published.

Dog Walking Schedule:
The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.
Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day! Even if you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded. New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs. Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards. Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important: Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it! Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage. Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all. We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.
*Please make sure you notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week!
If you don't know your availability a week in advance and see we need help the next day, just send me an e-mail by 10 p.m. the night before, and I will put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.
Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.
Please make sure no dogs are left outside or in the meet-and-greet room when the last volunteer leaves.

To All Dog Walkers:
Please pay attention to the DO NOT WALK SIGNS!
If a card says do not walk, always ask management
before assuming the dog is walkable. This can change daily
depending on the dog's progress or health; therefore,
it is very important to always ask first.

FOSTER HELP NEEDED!!!
From Susan:
We are looking for volunteers to foster cats that need medical attention. Medicine is usually administered from between 10-14 days. This is not a very difficult thing to do. You need a separate room to keep the cat away from your pets.
******************************************************
KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED
If interested in helping out, please contact the shelter at socaf@ochd.org.
From Susan:
To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time. Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X. These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.
Thank You, Susan
