Thursday's Flurries of Activity, From Dave:

What started out as a real unpromising morning after last nights downpour, turned out better than you can ask for. Some sun, but windy, but hey!! Snow flurries are better than rain anytime! Had the chance to walk the very lovely, well gracious Gracie! I thought, "Hmm, I don't see how she can possibly be double red, and a puller too?" She walked gingerly and easily, because I found out she had surgery yesterday and is probably feeling the effects of the medication still. So, short walks only for today, and she curled up in the meet and greet on a soft, cozy bed. Relax, honey, rest. Gracie needs to put on some weight (HEY!! SHE CAN HAVE MINE!!!!)  I ate pie with a snow shovel this week!!!!) Seems like a nice big dog. Or, should I say medium, because  Rocco, the Mastiff/mix, run #24, B side, is the XXXL Dog!! He is a rather large ANYTHING!! He would be considered a large vehicle if he had 4 wheels on him. Loveable boy; what a mush. He puts the "mellow" in  marshmallow. His head is soooo huge, I was nervous if the martingale would fit, but it did!!!! He got out for photos, and when he plopped down next to Joanne and wouldn't budge,  I said no way. I picked up a few biggies  around here, but uhuh, noooowaaayy. Can we get a forklift from Costco for ten minutes? But he walked back, whew!! He has the biggest paws, I mean P A W S,I've ever seen around here, and that's saying something! Head like a cannonball, (no offense, cannonballs).

Just too cold/windy, so other than the walking outta  Ken, Jennifer, Barry and  I, the only one who got outdoor time was the bouncingbumbleBenjamin.

We could use a re-supply of leashes and the new style martingales. The good news is dogs have left the building, the bad news is they have left with leashes and martingales attached, which, i guess is the tradeoff, so, we need a resupply, if possible.

The green bags (What's a green bag?) I mean poop bags, are on the way, but I filled the dispenser outside with  my  "SuperDuperPooper Top Secret, Double Trouble Hidden stash #2," of poop bags. Had them tucked away in the  "BREAK GLASS IN CASE OF EMERGENCY" dog supply kit for a situation like this, and this is it. Supposedly, an order of 500 boxes  is coming, so 500 boxes X 200 bags per box, gives us,  let's, see, carry the two, decimal point, minus the circumference of  Rocco's head X 1/2 his paw size, plus  3/10% of dogs here count, is ummm,100,000 bags, or enough to last till next Friday. Hahahahahaha!

I hope all had a nice Christmas with the important ones in your world, close by. Our thoughts are still with those who have their work still cut out for them. Hopefully, things are starting to look on the brighter side from the remnants of the storm, which we all will feel for a long time, I'm sure .

If your dog or cat got new sweaters, leashes, collars, and toys, and you are looking to thin some of the old, yet serviceable stuff, bring it in. Heck, my dog got more clothing than I did, but that's all right. He's been very good, at least for the last few weeks!!   Dave

Update Buddy, from Erma:

Update Guinness:  ADOPTED!

The videos and photos are from our Guinness' rescuer and new owner:

Good morning Connie. I received this this to day from Guinss's new owners and thought you and the others at the shelter would enjoy viewing it. It's a great reward for all the hard work and love everyone at the shelter put into Guiness . If he could I know he would like to thank everyone there for not giving up on him. You can see the smile on his face in finally being home. John

It finally happened, we got home safe and sound today, with a new dobe after 6 years, with only 1 dog.

Today was adoption day for Guiness, we are happy to have him, I know he is going to love his forever home, we already love him too.
I have been wanting to adopt again for years, thanks to Pa Doberman Rescue, and fosters John and Connie, a good match came true.

At first NEMO wanted to fully establish dominance, but Guiness was OK with that, so let the playtimes begin.

Enjoy the attached pics, and utube videos.

Dog Walking Schedule:

The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.

Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day!  Even if   you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded.  New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs.  Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards.  Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important:  Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it!  Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage.  Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all.  We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.

*Please make sure you notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week!
If you don't know your availability a week in advance and see we need help the next day, just send me an e-mail by 10 p.m. the night before, and I will put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.

Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.
Please make sure no dogs are left outside or in the meet-and-greet room when the last volunteer leaves.

REMINDER:  Every Tuesday is surgery day.  Find out who is having surgery when you come to walk the dogs.

To All Dog Walkers:
Please pay attention to the DO NOT WALK SIGNS!
If a card says do not walk, always ask management
before assuming the dog is walkable. This can change daily
depending on the dog's progress or health; therefore,

it is very important to always ask first.

FOSTER HELP NEEDED!!!
From Susan:
We are looking for volunteers to foster cats that need medical attention.  Medicine is usually administered from between 10-14 days.  This is not a very difficult thing to do.  You need a separate room to keep the cat away from your pets.
******************************************************
KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED

If interested in helping out, please contact the shelter at socaf@ochd.org.
From Susan:

To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time.  Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X.  These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.
Thank You, Susan
