Sunny Sunday's Newz from Dave:

Well, spring was certainly in the air this fine April morning. Linda C,Kathy R, Casey M.,  and  I were out, and out, and OUT some more with one of the finest mixes of colors and breeds and sizes, and also, the best part, this crew gets along with EVERYBODY!!!   I believe if a HYENA comes in today, they will all give him a fine how dooo you dooo and welcome aboard. They are that good .And that's not just me saying that.
Even shy and timid Mallory is coming along, as well as being fed 3x a day. The small but lovable duo of the aptly named Peanut and the misnamed Brutus just get right into the pack and move right along. Well, Peanut hopped a ride back in Linda's arms, but was good on the way out.

Roxy seems like a nice, docile, calm dog. Walks easy, likes who's she with.  Mallory walked fine with her nearby. Winter absolutely has to take his toy on the walk, and once someone suggested giving it to her in the outdoor run, she settled in and barked no more. So, make sure  she  always has a comfort toy in and outside.

The blanket in Tank's run was funny!! It has, "It's all about me!" printed on it!!
He's a seriously well-behaved very young boy who adores the lovely Babs, but who doesn't? Use the harness lead, hook him up quick, and  once out, it gets good quick. Hey, he is 10 months old, so puppyness will  pop out of him occasionally.
Babs gives you the illusion of being little, but next to Tank, is just a wee bit smaller, 4/5ths size. They play, walk, and adore each other. She will rest her head on him when they are tired out. Unreal.
Start your day with a big giant cup of MOCHA! You'll be glad you did!! I was!! She's  a delightfully  mischievous imp. We just wore her out completely. She was on every rotation out today, so she walked with the whole entire squad. A delight, just sweet. Her pretty pink nose tastes just like cotton candy, take my word for it!!!  With a good amount of exercise, she just melts into "good dog tired dog" mode. She was just superb today. The more walks and guidance, the better she becomes on a daily basis.

"Go with the flow " Bo just gets it done. Wagging that thick tail nonstop. Never complains, and never tuckers out. He will walk and walk. An older dog? Nobody, it appears, has informed  him. A real gentleman of a guy.

Sophie, the Boxer, also just mixes in with the crowd. The sleeper pick of the pack.

Chunky Monkey got a bath, and we had to hold off on any others until well-healed from surgeries. I may give Winter a bath Tuesday, and we will see who else needs one.

Good for Dylan, leaving the other day, and yesterday, Diego. A nice looking, nice sized, nice temperament, a home run of a dog, came in Thursday, out Saturday.

Good job at yesterday's event, nice turnout, good work!!! Those homemade dog treats were a big hit at home, as well as at the kennel. If I didn't know better, I would've had one with a cup of coffee too! Tank and Babs were out on the grass for most of it, while Jackie and Courtney got some additional hands-on work with them. They were model citizens out there! (Well, Jackie and Courtney were good also, but I meant the woofs!) and that is just about that.     Dave

Dog Walking Schedule:

The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.

Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day!  Even if   you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded.  New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs.  Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards.  Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important:  Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it!  Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage.  Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all.  We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.

*Please try to notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week.
If you don't know your availability a week in advance and see we need help the next day, just send me an e-mail by 10 p.m. the night before, and I will put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.

Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.
Please make sure no dogs are left outside or in the meet-and-greet room when the last volunteer leaves.

REMINDER:  Every Tuesday is surgery day.  Find out who is having surgery when you come to walk the dogs.

**KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED ASAP**

We are in need of fosters for our Bottle Baby kittens!

It's that time of the year again.  We need willing fosters who
can handle a litter of bottle babies, which require round-the-clock feeding. Yes, this means night time as well! We supply all the necessities, including a cage. Compensation will be given for your loving time and devotion.

We also need regular kitten fosters, as well, for a maximum of three kittens. Please contact Susan at pink49puffer@inbox.com if you would like to help us during this time! Thank you so much!

KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED

If interested in helping out, please contact the shelter at socaf@ochd.org.
From Susan:

To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time.  Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X.  These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.
Thank You, Susan
