From Dave, Thursday's Windy Storm on the Horizon Morning
Looked like we might not get the day in but by luck of the Irish Setter, it was just a windy morning. Good work by the crew who do, Carol, Kathy, Darlene. Good dogs were walked, and often. Kathy gave Bruno a quick bath in his outdoor pool, and I believe Bruno tried to return the favor!! He is a very smart boy, and Kathy has been giving him some command lessons. Casper wants to leash bite/play a bit, but if you can avoid rewarding it with attention (even negative attention is attention), he quickly realizes it's less fun than it appeared to be. Love that bumble. He spent some time in the meet and greet for the tour, and he was sooooo good with the harness demo. I appealed to him to be that cooperative tomorrow at 9am!!!
The large blue " H " harness , and the purple " H " harness seem to corral the handsome Nestle, and Casper in a bit. Caspers is on his run now, B side.
The remaining pupperdoo, Banjo, has got a neat wire hair face. I can't figure out what the heck he is other than cute. He was positioned in between Bruno and Casper, and he was so in his element. "HEY LOOK!! I'M A BIG BOY TOOO!!" Ok, ok settle down, little fella. When we put him back in, he was asleep under his bed in two minutes. I should've put a pair of footie pajamas on him, if I knew he'd be so tuckered out by noon!! You want to play with the big boys, ya gotta keep up.
Welcome Dan and Kristen, who were charmed by the marshmellow on 4 paws, Casper , the friendly woof .
Walked Sasha, the orange and white pittie mama. She's a nice gal, but I wonder how she is with other dogs. She does give them a look, so we will continue to walk her alone.
I wonder how it looked at Miller Air Park yesterday when the two chubby Bulldogs took off. Was the tail of the plane dragging with sparks a flying??? Hope they balanced the load!! Hope the pilot wasn't thinking, hmmm a bigger plane, like oh, a 747 might have been the call here!! I Picture them two bullies wearing goggles poking their heads out the windows too!!! Maybe even a stylish scarf to complete the look!!
The young dog, Lefty, is a cute young thing. How do we know he's lefthanded though? hmmmmm ?
Omigosh, this morning I must've had a case of puppy brain freeze or something. I signed in "DOGS" instead of my name. Holy toledo! I had to cross it out and write my real name in, because I didn't want any dogs getting in trouble, by coming down AND WALKING OTHER DOGS!!!! I mean, i'm just saying.
Oh, and like you guys never do stuff like that!!!!
Some pretty handsome cats were observing us out the cat playhouse today. Do you ever wonder what they're thinking? Some dogs they watch just stroll by, not a care, and others, they scatter back inside like, " OH Oh!! Here comes that dog that I read on his cage card "doesn't like cats!!!" Dave
Update Sunny, from Erma :
Sunny is doing great. She’s already been to the beach, on a boat and swimming in a lake. She’s great with my son and cats.
Sunny appears to have found her spot.

Hi Dog Walkers, If you will, please get the days and times you will be able to walk dogs in the upcoming week to Joanne Eckert no later than Sunday night each week. Love our dogs? Then adopt one as a Shelter Pup and FRIENDS will get a portion of the sale! Shelter Pups has turned a select group of dogs from our shelter into amazing and realistic plush pups. Check out Casper and wonderful Sherman! It's a great way to “adopt” one of our dogs and help our volunteer FRIENDS group at the same time. Shelter Pups can also make customs of your very own dog. Check it out and bring one of our dogs home as a Shelter Pup!

From SOCAF Management:
All dogs need to be walked with two leashes at all times, whether they are being walked from the pen to their runs, or just a few feet. No excuses, please!
The dogs must be on county property at all times when being walked. They cannot be walked IN the street or across the street.
Smoking is not allowed while walking dogs.
**********************************************************
TO ALL VOLUNTEERS:
If you see a dog limping, notice a lump, blood in the stool, etc., anything out of the ordinary, or if there is an incident with the dog, be sure to notify the supervisors, document the incident, and put it into the dog's file, keeping a copy for yourself.
********************************************************
Dog Walking Schedule:
Please check the dog-walking schedule below.
There are many days and time slots with little or no coverage.
Please e-mail me with the days and times you are able to cover.
If no one can cover, the dogs will either not get out in the morning or have to go back inside early on those days.
The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.
Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day! Even if you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded. New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs. Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards. Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important: Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it! Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage. Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all. We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.
*Please make sure you notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week!
Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.*

FOSTER HELP NEEDED!!!
From Susan:
We are looking for volunteers to foster cats that need medical attention. Medicine is usually administered from between 10-14 days. This is not a very difficult thing to do. You need a separate room to keep the cat away from your pets.
**********************************************************
KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED
If interested in helping out, please contact the shelter at socaf@ochd.org.
From Susan:
To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time. Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X. These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.
Thank You, Susan
SOCAF's Gallery of Glorious Cats
Special Thanks to Amy and Jennifer for taking these pics and for keeping us updated as to which cats are where.
