Patches, 7-year-old Pointer mix

Five of the 7-week-old Lab mix puppies went home today.  Three males remain.

******************************

From Dave:

Well, we danced around the raindrops today, didn't we?  We escaped dry as toast and about as warm.  Looked like a thunderstorm was gonna pounce on us any minute!!  All furfoots were walked early and often, thanks to Ken, Darlene, Jen, Kathy, (and I know I'm missing someone?) and me too!!  I see Patches, the tan and white Pointer, is back, on A side. He is as easy a dog there is to walk about with. Loves dogs, is non-confrontational, has an easy going nature to him. Give him some love, please.

On B side in run # 19, the dark brindle, female mix, was named  Cleo today. She's walkable. Just a bit skittish getting out, so get low and coax her; she's great once out, a lovebug, likes dogs as well. Young, and a good walker. Likes Poco, (who doesn't?) She had some run #4 time while Poco was out on a stroll.   With this many dogs, if you can, when you take, say Poco, for a walk, have someone get an inside dog out in that run for a spell until you get back; no wasted empty runs then, in effect.

The talk today, as far as I was concerned, was  "Whatcha have for dinner last nite? Wasn't it a fun nite? " For those of us lucky enough to get to Uncle Wills, it was a nice nite out. I had the the filet. It was terrific, but I wish i won that yellow dog bone bathrobe though!!! I would've worn it home!!!!!!

Oh, the creme brulee cheesecake was deelish tooo.  I only had a bite.  I opted for the apple crisp, was very good, Oh, what? This is a newzletter about "animals'? Ooops!!!! Off track for a moment. Thanks to all who organized the event and Uncle Wills for a sucessful nite all the way around.

Nina went home yesterday, what a good old gal. The prince of a rotti pup, Carmine, is supposed to go. He had his his surgery yesterday, and you can't help but smile when you walk past the couple of runs, that should be labeled  " DANGER!!! Bucket of bad puppies inside!" Just want  to crawl in there and get some delightful puppy breath all over me . What a barrel of laughs those guys are.

Outside lineup today was as follows  2-Bruno 4- Poco 5-Shelby 6-Sunny  7-Nestle 8-Lacey , Lucky, meet and greet. Switch out Shelby and Lucky a little bit. Shelby likes it in there too, and watch her stitches area. If any bugs bother her, take her back in. Okay, see ya  soon.  Dave.

All volunteers must wear either their ID badge or a volunteer T-shirt.

************************************************
It's mosquito season!  Please be sure to empty the kiddie pools and bring in any blankets or towels left outside before you leave in the afternoon.
***********************************************

Green walkers please look for volunteers with the red dot on their badge.  They will help you with anything you need.

****************************************************************

From SOCAF Management:

All dogs need to be walked with two leashes at all times, whether they are being walked from the pen to their runs, or just a few feet.  No excuses, please!

The dogs must be on county property at all times when being walked.  They cannot be walked IN the street or across the street.

Smoking is not allowed while walking dogs.

**********************************************************

TO ALL VOLUNTEERS:

If you see a dog limping, notice a lump, blood in the stool, etc., anything out of the ordinary, or if there is an incident with the dog, be sure to notify the supervisors, document the incident, and put it into the dog's file, keeping a copy for yourself.

********************************************************

Dog Walking Schedule:

Please check the dog-walking schedule below.
There are many days and time slots with little or no coverage.
Please e-mail me with the days and times you are able to cover.
If no one can cover, the dogs will either not get out in the morning or have to go back inside early on those days.

The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.

Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day!  Even if   you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded.  New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs.  Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards.  Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important:  Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it!  Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage.  Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all.  We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.

*Please make sure you notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week!  This morning, 4 people were scheduled, yet 7 showed up.

Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.*

FOSTER HELP NEEDED!!!
From Susan:
We are looking for volunteers to foster cats that need medical attention.  Medicine is usually administered from between 10-14 days.  This is not a very difficult thing to do.  You need a separate room to keep the cat away from your pets.

**********************************************************

KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED

If interested in helping out, please contact the shelter at socaf@ochd.org.

From Susan:

To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time.  Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X.  These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.
Thank You, Susan

We are supposed to come there tomorrow after Brooke's specialists' appointment to meet with one of the pups. Hopefully we will get there as close to 1pm as possible. We were already told there wouldn't be a problem with getting one of the pups. yayyyy!!! See you all tomorrow.
