Indiana was adopted today!

Help Needed!
Would you like to do more than walking dogs or socializing cats? How about joining the Rescue Squad? Joanna could use some help in finding rescues for our unadoptable dogs and transportation. E-mail Joanna at jaysangels1010@comcast.net if you can help out.

The schedule for the weekend is better, but only slightly.  We could still use at least one more red walker tomorrow morning and Saturday afternoon.

Update JT from Pat, two days late (my fault):

We have our gorgeous boy JT (for James Taylor)
1 year today!

Thursday's Update from Dave:

Possibly the nicest day of the year, wow, and hopefully, none of you guys who were sleeping in a bit were awakened from the diesel horn, the foghorn, the air-raid siren, in the form of the beautiful, large, and quite the mezzasoprano, HOSS!!    OOOW-WOOOO-GAA!!!  He certainly loves to let you know he's around!!!  Do not be put off by the yodeling, he gets into walk mode and settles down.  His wonderful ears are the size of  some beach towels!!!  Oh so soft. What a big boy, hey, we had a LadyBird and a SallyBird Treeing Walkers before. We do know they love to howl. He was good in the outside run, not much noise outta him there after our walk. Strong, consistent pull walker, but likes dogs too.

Today's lineup: 2-Hoss 3- Felix 4-Danni 5- Gucci 6-Indy 7- Roxy 8-Oceanus. Nikki had the meet and greet.

Good work from Rose Mary, Leslie, Sage and Paige!!

Ruby the pup is sure a leash biter, but a pup, cute as a bug.

The young Shepherd, B Side, Gordy, little excitable, but an affectionate type. Nice black, brown and a bit of white on him. Clean, shiny, a little in need of training, but a nice young dog. He walks well, little squirrelly, would be a way to describe, but will crawl into your lap when you stop out on a walk.

Sirus, nice, decent manners, likes dogs, walked in the general area of others, seems interested, nothing unusual or nervous. Got those big hound ears like Hoss.

Poor little white Bichon, Betty, went in for some treatment, and she has a cone on. Ain't nothing sadder than to see a cone on a cutie, huh?

Max and Diesel went out as usual, together, good long one too.

Had a nice 4 pack walk of Danni, the regal, elegant gal, Gucci, a handsome one, who loves to lead the way, Felix, the gray brindle pit, (think of a little bigger Griffin!) and a wonderful dog, just a sweet, swell dog. Walks very nicely. Big anvil head, but a mush. And the cute skinnyminny mouse, Indy (Indiana), the black young, tall, pitpuppy.  Danni went out and back twice. She's a good walker, likes her crew. She pulled a branch, yeah, a branch, not a twig, not a stick, a branch, outta the trail side and walked and whittled it as she went, so it finally was a manageable 3 footer on the way back. Love her.

Had some time off, just from the kennel, not from doing stuff! But if you're fortunate enough to be able to help some others, you're fortunate enough, right? So, a terrific way of getting back into the mix, good weather, good walks, from good walkers, with good dogs on the leash. Refreshing day.

Sirus has a video, too, although it's aimed at finding rescue for him.

Dog Walking Schedule:

The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.

Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day!  Even if   you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded.  New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs.  Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards.  Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important:  Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it!  Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage.  Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all.  We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.

*Please try to notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week.
If you don't know your availability a week in advance and see we need help the next day, just send me an e-mail by 10 p.m. the night before, and I will put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.

Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.
Please make sure no dogs are left outside or in the meet-and-greet room when the last volunteer leaves.

REMINDER:  Every Tuesday is surgery day.  Find out who is having surgery when you come to walk the dogs.

**KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED ASAP**

We are in need of fosters for our Bottle Baby kittens!

It's that time of the year again.  We need willing fosters who
can handle a litter of bottle babies, which require round-the-clock feeding. Yes, this means night time as well! We supply all the necessities, including a cage. Compensation will be given for your loving time and devotion.

We also need regular kitten fosters, as well, for a maximum of three kittens. Please contact Susan at pink49puffer@inbox.com if you would like to help us during this time! Thank you so much!

KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED

If interested in helping out, please contact the shelter at socaf@ochd.org.
From Susan:

To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time.  Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X.  These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.
Thank You, Susan

Hi Dog Walkers, If you will, please get the days and times you will be able to walk dogs in the upcoming week to Joanne Eckert no later than Sunday night each week.  I need to turn in the schedule to the HD on Monday mornings.  Thanks so much for volunteering your time for the animals! It is greatly appreciated!!
