Update Brandy and Stella from their foster Mom yesterday:

The girls are wonderful. Sweet as molasses. We love them!

Brandy is the sweet old girl that's friendly and loving. She gets a spike of energy and plays a bit but then she's content to sleep at your feet.  Stella Bella is the old girl that missed the memo that she's OLD! She's as nutty as a fruitcake! She is very playful! She loves to walk around with a stuffed animal and play chase with any toy. She's a bull in a china shop. She is notoriously pushing past Brandy and sometimes knocking her over! She will push her sister away from the water bowl just because she can. She is a true brat! But oh my gosh does she make us laugh. She is a true character. So so much personality. She is very concerned about Brandy's whereabouts at all times. The girls are inseparable.

The girls were excellent during the intro with our three dogs and the kids. Absolutely no problems there.

The girls have finally passed out from all the excitement. Brandy hopped upon the couch next to me and is happily sleeping with her head hanging off the couch, snoring. Stella is asleep on the floor. My three are helping Bill unpack the groceries.

Everyone is great and we are very excited about our new house guests.

PS it is easy to mistake Stella for Moe. She is the female meatball version of Moe. And did I mention she has a silly personality?

Brandy and Stella's update from today:

Stella and Brandy are doing GREAT!  They slept through the night without a peep.  We've gone about our usual routine, church, birthday parties, etc and the girls do well with us coming and going.  Stella goes bizerk when we return!  She is so happy, which of course makes our dogs think something grand is going on so everyone just gets all worked up over our return.  We are getting ready to take the kids to our swim club and have absolutely no worries that the dogs are fine while we are gone.  They have the run of the house and we haven't had any problems with that.

Oh one more thing to report, Pork Chop(Stella) is officially on the green bean diet along with her buddy Meatball(Moe).  She weighed 96 pounds when we left the shelter so we'll see how she does in a few weeks.

Since my DSLR doesn't do video all that well, I took the plunge and ordered a camcorder from Amazon last week to help in the making of our dogs' videos.  This is my first time using it, other than a test or two with my own dogs.  Overall, I think this is the solution to the focusing problems I was having with my regular camera.  Blue's new video looks MUCH better, don't you think?

Dog Walking Schedule:

The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.

Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day!  Even if   you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded.  New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs.  Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards.  Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important:  Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it!  Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage.  Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all.  We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.

*Please try to notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week.
If you don't know your availability a week in advance and see we need help the next day, just send me an e-mail by 10 p.m. the night before, and I will put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.

Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.
Please make sure no dogs are left outside or in the meet-and-greet room when the last volunteer leaves.

REMINDER:  Every Tuesday is surgery day.  Find out who is having surgery when you come to walk the dogs.

**KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED ASAP**

We are in need of fosters for our Bottle Baby kittens!

It's that time of the year again.  We need willing fosters who
can handle a litter of bottle babies, which require round-the-clock feeding. Yes, this means night time as well! We supply all the necessities, including a cage. Compensation will be given for your loving time and devotion.

We also need regular kitten fosters, as well, for a maximum of three kittens. Please contact Susan at pink49puffer@inbox.com if you would like to help us during this time! Thank you so much!

KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED

If interested in helping out, please contact the shelter at socaf@ochd.org.
From Susan:

To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time.  Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X.  These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.
Thank You, Susan
