The shelter is nearly full. We now have 15 walkable dogs, many of which are greens or yellows. Yesterday, the first red walker arrived at 1 p.m. Please, please help! The dogs need to get out, and there are too many for only one, or even two people to handle.
Please review the schedule below and help to fill in a blank spot or two.
Thanks.

Thursday's Notes from Dave:
A day of running in and out among the sunshine and the cloudbursts.
Lineup: 2- Brooke 3- Peaches 4-Bo 5- Mallory (loves Bo) 6-Princess 7- Max 8-Diesel.
Sadie is a digger out there, so she needs supervision. Bo, Halo, and Peaches also shared the meet and greet room. Halo is a little squealing piggy when you try harnessing up, but a nice-sized super silly nice girl. I picked her up just to see how it would go, and she was fine.
Bo has gone from a dog that I was leery of touching because of his neglect, to a dog I absolutely love to touch, to handle, to let him know he's loved. His coat is coming around too, calm, delightful walker, loves his Mallory, and pretty much everyone. Take his martingale off, though, to give his neck a rest His fur is worn down there from being tied out, so just collar him when you take him out. Bo is a nice, nice boy. Enjoyed sitting with him in the sun for a while, lolling in the grass.
B siders: Run 18 -Shelby, young tan Lab mix, nice dog, (yellow) 19-Dodger, Puggle (yellow) 20- Jeet,, Pomaranian, (green), 21-Maddy, Pointer mix, (who looks like the offspring if Swirlz and Patches had a pup). Nice markings and color, black, gray and white, and two mismatched colored speckled ears, ( not that there's anything WRONG with that!!) 22- Archie, Bassett/Beagle mix? Typical nose with four legs attached-Beagle!!!
Nice work, Kristie , Ken and speaking of grass, they were actually mowing the Serengeti around the shelter and the overgrown areas, so that's about right!!
Twice as many paws to walk can only mean one thing; we could use twice as many legs to get them out. And, Mallory , of course, grab her early. She's very housebroken, and bring 4 bags with you!! Just saying!! And hasn't SHE become quite the cuddlebug, right?? Dave

Dog Walking Schedule:
The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.
Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day! Even if you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded. New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs. Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards. Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important: Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it! Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage. Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all. We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.
*Please try to notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week.
If you don't know your availability a week in advance and see we need help the next day, just send me an e-mail by 10 p.m. the night before, and I will put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.
Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.
Please make sure no dogs are left outside or in the meet-and-greet room when the last volunteer leaves.

**KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED ASAP**
We are in need of fosters for our Bottle Baby kittens!
It's that time of the year again. We need willing fosters who
can handle a litter of bottle babies, which require round-the-clock feeding. Yes, this means night time as well! We supply all the necessities, including a cage. Compensation will be given for your loving time and devotion.
We also need regular kitten fosters, as well, for a maximum of three kittens. Please contact Susan at pink49puffer@inbox.com if you would like to help us during this time! Thank you so much!

KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED
If interested in helping out, please contact the shelter at socaf@ochd.org.
From Susan:
To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time. Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X. These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.
Thank You, Susan
SOCAF's Gallery of Glorious Cats
Special Thanks to Jennifer for taking these pics and for keeping us updated as to which cats are where.

Hi Dog Walkers, If you will, please get the days and times you will be able to walk dogs in the upcoming week to Joanne Eckert no later than Sunday night each week. I need to turn in the schedule to the HD on Monday mornings. Thanks so much for volunteering your time for the animals! It is greatly appreciated!!
**********************************************************
Love our dogs? Then adopt one as a Shelter Pup and FRIENDS will get a portion of the sale! Shelter Pups has turned a select group of dogs from our shelter into amazing and realistic plush pups. Check out Casper and wonderful Sherman! It's a great way to “adopt” one of our dogs and help our volunteer FRIENDS group at the same time. Shelter Pups can also make customs of your very own dog. Check it out and bring one of our dogs home as a Shelter Pup!
************************************
Anyone who needs a T-shirt, please e-mail Debbie at nyrfan12@aol.com. Send her the size you need, and she'll leave it in the locker room with your name attached.
***************************************************
All new walkers may walk green dogs on their own once they have gone through orientation. New walkers may walk yellow dogs once they have been with a red walker and told by the red walker they are okay to move on.
***********EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY***********
All volunteers must wear either their ID badge or a volunteer T-shirt.

From SOCAF Management:
All dogs need to be walked with two leashes at all times, whether they are being walked from the pen to their runs, or just a few feet. No excuses, please!
The dogs must be on county property at all times when being walked. They cannot be walked IN the street or across the street.
Smoking is not allowed while walking dogs.
When walking dogs, please do not allow dogs to jump up onto any vehicles.
**********************************************************
TO ALL VOLUNTEERS:
If you see a dog limping, notice a lump, blood in the stool, etc., anything out of the ordinary, or if there is an incident with the dog, be sure to notify the supervisors, document the incident, and put it into the dog's file, keeping a copy for yourself.
