Thursday's Cold March Morning, from Dave:
Yikes!!! SNOW FLURRIES!!!! 32 degrees, oooh boy!!! Good day to snuggle up with some warm woofs like the big boys, Yukon, Big, Otis and Griffin!
Today's lineup: 2- Yukon 4-Griffin 5-Big 6-Haileigh 7-Cali 8-Otis with the lumbering Reuben, making his way into the meet and greet after his walk.
Abby, the skinny German Shepherd, becomes more and more at ease, an easy walker, too. Yukon, walked with the red Harness Lead, was a joy today. Well, I think he is a joy every day, very smart boy, and he loves his toys too! Very housebroken, get him out early. His red harness lead hangs on his B Side run.
Isn't Haileigh such a loving Labbie?? Smooth, shiny, she wants so much to just be with someone; she's a very affectionate, cute dog .
Nice job, Ken, Kristi, and Grace! Everyone got tucked back in around 11:30, but I think Yukon would've stayed out till 4:00 pm. What snow?
B Side, run #15, Bonnie, the beautiful, big, young American Bulldog puppy, (black and white), should be getting reclaimed today or tomorrow. Had a chance to meet her, take her out for relief, and a little fooling around time in the meet and greet too. I'm thinking, if that was my dog, I'd call work, tell them I quit, and spend my mornings in pajamas playing and training her, and my afternoons, maybe get dressed, and go walking, EAT, SLEEP, do it again!!! What a gorgeous dog. Go home and enjoy yourself. Oh, the faces you meet here!! She is so shiny, got that extra skin to fill out, smells like a freshly baked cupcake!!! G'bye lil cannonball!!!
Well, I'm supposed to play golf tomorrow and go skiing in Vermont on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. March is the wackiest of months, ain't it??

NEEDED: Volunteers to attend and bring back info from The Animal Welfare Federation of New Jersey Conference this Friday and Saturday at the Ocean Place Resort and Spa in Long Branch. It looks like they have some very worthwhile, informative workshops and it is in an attractive convenient location. The Friends will underwrite the cost for three or four people. You can go one day or both days.

Dog Walking Schedule:
The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.
Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day! Even if you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded. New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs. Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards. Red walkers' names in red type.

Important: Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it! Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage. Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all. We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.
*Please make sure you notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week!
If you don't know your availability a week in advance and see we need help the next day, just send me an e-mail by 10 p.m. the night before, and I will put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.

Rabies Clinic is the 2nd. and 4th. Wednesday of the month. Dogs must be back inside by 10:30 on Clinic days.
To All Dog Walkers:
Please pay attention to the DO NOT WALK SIGNS! If a card says do not walk, always ask management before assuming the dog is walkable. This can change daily depending on the dog's progress or health; therefore, it is very important to always ask first.

FOSTER HELP NEEDED!!!

We are looking for volunteers to foster cats that need medical attention. Medicine is usually administered from between 10-14 days. This is not a very difficult thing to do. You need a separate room to keep the cat away from your pets.

To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time. Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X. These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.

All new walkers may walk green dogs on their own once they have gone through orientation. New walkers may walk yellow dogs once they have been with a red walker and told by the red walker they are okay to move on.

From SOCAF Management:
All dogs need to be walked with two leashes at all times, whether they are being walked from the pen to their runs, or just a few feet. No excuses, please!
The dogs must be on county property at all times when being walked. They cannot be walked IN the street or across the street.
Smoking is not allowed while walking dogs.
When walking dogs, please do not allow dogs to jump up onto any vehicles.

TO ALL VOLUNTEERS:
If you see a dog limping, notice a lump, blood in the stool, etc., anything out of the ordinary, or if there is an incident with the dog, be sure to notify the supervisors, document the incident, and put it into the dog's file, keeping a copy for yourself.
