Our wonderful volunteers, Catherine and Tom, picked up Cara this afternoon and brought her home with them! Cara will be fostered until a forever home is found. Thank you, Tom and Cathy!

Hey !! did you set your clocks ahead?? What a nice 45-degree day, as you can imagine, i'm not gonna jinx us but,,,,I already drained the snowblower and put it away!! Pretty reasonable winter, so with nice decent days ahead, let's get our walking shoes on and keep them moving!!
I strolled in at 10:00 am, and all the heavy lifting was done by Linda, Casey, and Kathy, so with pure walking time available for me, Yukon (who looks like Santa's watch dog) and I left for a sweet 45-minute walk. He's a little touchy about a harness and his feet, but I went into run # 2 with him, had him sit, shake a paw, and gently slipped it on him. The Harness Lead is a better idea, and Casey showed me again how to do it properly, so it is hanging on his run. He loves a roll in the grass and enjoys a good rubdown. He will back into your lap, and at times, will attempt a leash bite, so if possible, distract him with a stick, and he will refocus. I don't know if i like the brown eye or the blue eye better??
The girls were on the trail with Kabota, Cali,and the tan shepherd mix, (name escapes me). So, I grabbed Griffin, who walks like a little sweet Chihuahua, and off we went for a good looong walk too. It's amazing how much good work you can get out of a mere two hours of walk/work. You can get 2 great woofs out and exercised for the day. So, if you think why go in? I only have an hour or two, come in, they'll be glad you did. It makes a big difference and allows the rest of the crew to get others out and about. Your 2 feet = 4 paws moving, what a deal!!
Connie and Deb were doing shed work, and when Connie pulled away with her truck loaded with stuff, headed to the storage locker, I kept hearing the theme songs for "Sanford and Son" and the "Beverly Hillbillies" in my head!!! Ohh boy!
Today's lineup: 2-Yukon 4-tan shepherd 9cant remember her name?) 5-Cara 6-Cali 7-Kabota with Griffin mixing into the empty runs when dogs were strolling. The Brindle Shar Pei mix, named "Big", well, I think that's short for " Big pile of pudding." What a mellowfellow. He is adored by a bunch of us.
Cara is going to Catherine's and Tom's for "foster", which is kind of a code word for "adopting a dog slowly." Haha, I hope Catherine has the sunroof open on the ride home so Cara's ears, in full helicopter mode, can provide enough lift to fly there quicker!!!! The video was good, and even though I know her and her multi-talented ears, it's still so cute to see!!! I have a feeling that Cara will be adding her name to the mailbox in about a month!!! Just saying!!

Pack Ethic needs all the help they can get financially, so Muervet found an internet company that sells t-shirts and donates $5 for each shirt you order to a rescue organization and set it up to benefit Pack Ethic. I’m Not A Monster is a dog advocacy initiative that aims to improve bully breeds’ image through positive portrayals.
If you need a t-shirt or two to complete your spring/summer wardrobe, this would be a good place to start shopping and help Pack Ethic at the same time!

Dog Walking Schedule:
The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.
Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day! Even if you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded. New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs. Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards. Red walkers' names in red type.

Important: Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it! Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage. Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all. We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.
*Please make sure you notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week!
If you don't know your availability a week in advance and see we need help the next day, just send me an e-mail by 10 p.m. the night before, and I will put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.

Rabies Clinic is the 2nd. and 4th. Wednesday of the month. Dogs must be back inside by 10:30 on Clinic days.
To All Dog Walkers:
Please pay attention to the DO NOT WALK SIGNS! If a card says do not walk, always ask management before assuming the dog is walkable. This can change daily depending on the dog's progress or health; therefore, it is very important to always ask first.

FOSTER HELP NEEDED!!!

We are looking for volunteers to foster cats that need medical attention. Medicine is usually administered from between 10-14 days. This is not a very difficult thing to do. You need a separate room to keep the cat away from your pets.

All new walkers may walk green dogs on their own once they have gone through orientation. New walkers may walk yellow dogs once they have been with a red walker and told by the red walker they are okay to move on.

From SOCAF Management:
All dogs need to be walked with two leashes at all times, whether they are being walked from the pen to their runs, or just a few feet. No excuses, please!
The dogs must be on county property at all times when being walked. They cannot be walked IN the street or across the street.
Smoking is not allowed while walking dogs.
When walking dogs, please do not allow dogs to jump up onto any vehicles.

TO ALL VOLUNTEERS:
If you see a dog limping, notice a lump, blood in the stool, etc., anything out of the ordinary, or if there is an incident with the dog, be sure to notify the supervisors, document the incident, and put it into the dog's file, keeping a copy for yourself.
