Tuesday's, not Thursday's Newz from Dave:

A bit of a dreary day but, the crew came in got it done.  Good work Ken, Janice, Kristi, and Paula. I said to Janice, I think, "Hey, how come Reuben is having surgery today, a Thursday?" She calmly reminded me that it is currently Tuesday. Ooops, must've set my calendar ahead last week 2 whole days. But whatever.

Surgery today for Reuben, Rachel, and #15 B Side, Bonnie, the scrumptious black and white American Bulldog puppy. A large puppy, got some skin to fill in, and the little lady is deaf, too. Was snoozing her way through breakfast, when I gently woke her up to get a relief walk pre-surgery. Shiny, cute, what a doll. When you talk to her, she does that head tilt thing, melts you.

Use the harness lead with Yukon so it's easy to get on and off of him. Hanging on his B side run. He's been using outside run 32. Make him work for his treats, sit and paw. He needs a little guidance, takes handling well. Just keep reinforcing his good, loving behaviors. Handsome dog!

Big, the big easy, had the meet and greet this morning. He's a vocal chap, just moans for companionship, and it's hard to ignore his pleas. Loves to see you, so spend time with him, if he's outside in a run too. When it gets warm, we're gonna have to get a few canvas folding chairs in the runs, under the guise of it's for PEOPLE to sit in, with the dogs. We shall see how that goes!

I believe I heard the brown B side pittie is being reclaimed, and the black with a little white should be vaccinated and temperament tested soon.

Hayleigh, the young Lab mix lass, an affectionate, energetic girl, very loving. Take her, when you do, on a good long one. She's got the energy, and she's an easy one to go with also.

See ya Thursday. Hopefully, I don't think it's "Tuesday"!!       Dave

Dog Walking Schedule:

The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.

Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day!  Even if   you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded.  New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs.  Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards.  Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important:  Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it!  Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage.  Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all.  We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.

*Please make sure you notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week!
If you don't know your availability a week in advance and see we need help the next day, just send me an e-mail by 10 p.m. the night before, and I will put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.

Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.
Please make sure no dogs are left outside or in the meet-and-greet room when the last volunteer leaves.

REMINDER:  Every Tuesday is surgery day.  Find out who is having surgery when you come to walk the dogs.

Rabies Clinic is the 2nd. and 4th. Wednesday of the month. Dogs must be back inside by 10:30 on Clinic days.

To All Dog Walkers:
Please pay attention to the DO NOT WALK SIGNS! If a card says do not walk, always ask management before assuming the dog is walkable. This can change daily depending on the dog's progress or health; therefore, it is very important to always ask first.

FOSTER HELP NEEDED!!!
From Susan:
We are looking for volunteers to foster cats that need medical attention.  Medicine is usually administered from between 10-14 days.  This is not a very difficult thing to do.  You need a separate room to keep the cat away from your pets.
******************************************************
KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED

If interested in helping out, please contact the shelter at socaf@ochd.org.
From Susan:

To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time.  Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X.  These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.
Thank You, Susan
