Thursday's Double Shift News, from Dave:

Wacky morning, walking through the trails, the snow was melting off the trees , almost as if it was raining, for awhile.  (note to ed.,, April can walk yellow dogs, she has been doing well, with Cara, McGee, Flora, Cali, ).And so it went .
Thanks, Ken, and April, for hiking out with the crew.I sweatered Cara, and Flora, as there was chill in the air, and also, like spoiling them a bit. Cara, with the corduroy, Woolrich jacket, and Flora sported a green knit sweater,
Pretty good article in this month's " Mens Journal " about Cesar Millan, the Dog Whisperer. Interesting. Some good thoughts about paying attention to what a dog is telling you, and being a calm leader, giving a good dog good direction.
Also , some good pictures of the new Corvette too, but thats another issue !
Had the chance to come back in the afternoon for awhile, and got to see what I usually don't . People meet and greeting with dogs. Was able to see a young couple, going back and forth deciding between two cuties, Cara and Flora, ultimately choosing  Flora. I think either dog was a good choice, but Flora just won the girl over quite quickly, even as she was sitting in her run,but once in the meet and greet, with the way she just snuggles into your heart,,it was a matter of a few minutes .Good for her.
It's an amazing feeling to see a dog come in, like Flora, a skittish, nervous, sensitive thing, transform into a dog you looked forward to seeing, and walking, and watch her gain confidence, and trust in us all.
I don't know if Cupid got a hold of  Otis, but he was really enjoying his outside run # 4 next to Cara, the two of them prancing along side by side, was really cute. Otis is a pretty good walker, a nice big boy, just takes a minute to ease him into the harness. Not a real pulller either.
I was just sitting here already missing McGee, I mean I just hope he has a squeaky his first night home in a new place. Man, what a gorgeous boy, just wow.I won't be deleting his photo off my phone for awhile. Breaking up is hard to do !!
And , i can cross off my bucket List, # 45. that's the one where it says, " Have Benji step in a trailside poo, then jump up and procede to pitter patter your previously  unmarked sweatshirt with pooprints, or pawprints, but yeah,,,,pooprints, ". Well, thank goodness for the extra one in the car !!!That would've been a 4 window open ride home !!!!!!hahhah   dave

This week!  Bakers needed!

********************************************************

Dog Walking Schedule:

The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.

Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day!  Even if   you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded.  New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs.  Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards.  Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important:  Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it!  Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage.  Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all.  We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.

*Please make sure you notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week!
If you don't know your availability a week in advance and see we need help the next day, just send me an e-mail by 10 p.m. the night before, and I will put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.

Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.
Please make sure no dogs are left outside or in the meet-and-greet room when the last volunteer leaves.

REMINDER:  Every Tuesday is surgery day.  Find out who is having surgery when you come to walk the dogs.

Rabies Clinic is the 2nd. and 4th. Wednesday of the month. Dogs must be back inside by 10:30 on Clinic days.

To All Dog Walkers:
Please pay attention to the DO NOT WALK SIGNS! If a card says do not walk, always ask management before assuming the dog is walkable. This can change daily depending on the dog's progress or health; therefore, it is very important to always ask first.

***From Cathy:  After walking the dogs on the salt covered roads and parking lot, we should wipe their paws with a towel to keep them from ingesting it and getting sick***

FOSTER HELP NEEDED!!!
From Susan:
We are looking for volunteers to foster cats that need medical attention.  Medicine is usually administered from between 10-14 days.  This is not a very difficult thing to do.  You need a separate room to keep the cat away from your pets.
******************************************************
KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED

If interested in helping out, please contact the shelter at socaf@ochd.org.
From Susan:

To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time.  Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X.  These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.
Thank You, Susan
