Tuesday's Doings, from Dave:

Nice, chilly, but a decent day. Good help out of Ken, Paula,  Janice, and Kristi.

Today's surgeries were Gracie, Griffin, and Macy, so be aware tomorrow. Be gentle, go easy, not so far until you see how they are.
With the rain in the forecast, I bagged up McGee's nice bed in run #2 and placed it inside the house, so it'll be dry.

Houdi was long walked. He is an easy going type, just watch his tail; the staff was checking it to see if he had a previous injury. Houdi walks nice, but you'll notice his tail droops, even when he is obviously happy playing tennis ball with you. So, avoid touching it , though he wasn't too fussy or appear to be in any pain from it. Handsome Hound Houdi. He spent some time in the meet and greet, was fine.

Today's lineup: 2-McGee, 4-Cara 5-Otis  6-Cali 7-Mika the chow mix, 8-Kabota.

Mika's a nice walker too. I put the box of new martingales out in the deckbox, so if you need them, we are stocked up. Geez, I looked at a light blue one, looks like it could fit a rhinoceros!!! I may possibly be able to get  McGee AND Cara into that ONE martingale!!! I said to Kristi, "Gee, hope I don't find out anytime soon who this will fit on!! YIKES!!!!"'

There are 4 Chihuahuas on B side, two shorthair, two longhair. As with all these smaller types, find out IF they are walkable, and go slow with the little, new, nervous ones.

And always, as usual, put  McGee back inside, with a squeeky toy!!!

Poop can dispensers were filled, and garbage bags were emptied, job #2 is sometimes, as we say, job#1 around here!!!

If and when i get one of those nice, logo  sweatshirts, I am taking it to have " C.P.P.U " embroidered on it too......chief poop picker upper !!!   Dave

Dog Walking Schedule:

The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.

Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day!  Even if   you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded.  New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs.  Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards.  Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important:  Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it!  Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage.  Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all.  We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.

*Please make sure you notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week!
If you don't know your availability a week in advance and see we need help the next day, just send me an e-mail by 10 p.m. the night before, and I will put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.

Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.
Please make sure no dogs are left outside or in the meet-and-greet room when the last volunteer leaves.

REMINDER:  Every Tuesday is surgery day.  Find out who is having surgery when you come to walk the dogs.

Rabies Clinic is the 2nd. and 4th. Wednesday of the month. Dogs must be back inside by 10:30 on Clinic days.

To All Dog Walkers:
Please pay attention to the DO NOT WALK SIGNS! If a card says do not walk, always ask management before assuming the dog is walkable. This can change daily depending on the dog's progress or health; therefore, it is very important to always ask first.

***From Cathy:  After walking the dogs on the salt covered roads and parking lot, we should wipe their paws with a towel to keep them from ingesting it and getting sick***

FOSTER HELP NEEDED!!!
From Susan:
We are looking for volunteers to foster cats that need medical attention.  Medicine is usually administered from between 10-14 days.  This is not a very difficult thing to do.  You need a separate room to keep the cat away from your pets.
******************************************************
KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED

If interested in helping out, please contact the shelter at socaf@ochd.org.
From Susan:

To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time.  Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X.  These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.
Thank You, Susan
