The 14-year-old Lhasa Apso was reclaimed.

***************************************

I was told that the entire B side is now walkable.  Of course, you should check the cage cards to be sure.  If the rain holds off long enough, I will be down tomorrow for pictures and will check the status of the B siders.

I have been trying to figure out why the blog's notifications have not been working.  Google's idea of notification and mine are apparently not one and the same.  The Subscribe button is for an RSS or Atom feed of the blog, which has not been set up.

I tried to set up a feed, but this blog has too many photos for that to work.  The end result is that I will continue to send out my own notifications.  I also suggest that you bookmark the blog's page and check yourself.  As changes are made to the walking schedule, I may update more than once per day without notifications being sent.

Thanks.
Joanne

Windy Tuesday's Newz From Dave:

Wow, what a thing to walk into the shelter and KNOW that, somewhere far away in a magical place, LOLA is waking up to another day of just being a productive, successful member of a pack, just being a dog!!  Seeing the video of her running, well,  that did make me a little teary!!! Joyful to see her on the move!!! With other good woofers!!!Good for you GIR !!! Run, Lola, RUN!!! Whew!! You all made it happen !!

Today was surgery day for : Repete, Soco, Poco, and Beau, or as I have come to call him,,,,,, Beau-tiful. Isn't he though ? And he is coming along wonderfully as a result of sugar coated loving and caring from everybody. What a change for the better in just a few days!!! Boy, what good  hearts and help can undo, simply amazing. Heard he has a hold with a couple who will be with him at all times, so wow, great. He looks like he should be on the cover of " Field and Stream ", what a shiny gorgeous dawg!!

Oh, the white Boxer mix, B side had surgery today, too. Does he have a name? Attractive dog too!   Should be WALKABLE Weds  morning, so check/ ask.

Had  Beau  outside until his call for surgery, next to another sweetheart dog, Cullen. They were side by side , just comfortable in adjoining runs. I would feel good about putting them in together, under supervision, but hopefully, he's home tomorrow!!   Cullen, nice, gentleman of a guy, real neat mix, husky Lab?

Tank has made a claim for some time in the meet and greet room too.

Remember to use the clothespins on the runs to indicate who/how many walks, just really helpful for the noon on crew, so everyone gets a turn on the leash with their favorite Volunteer! If you have a leash, YOU are their favorite Volunteer !!!

That crazy Rod Stewart looking  chinese crested/ lowchen supposed to go too tomorrow!! Beautiful orange and white American Bulldog should be reclaimed today, has an owner, escapee, Man, i wanted to get my paws on him !! Real doll !!

Also, take the harnesses off Bruiser at the end of the day, Sherman and Tank are okay with those  "H " harnesses, so, that's it !! good ork, Ken, Patty R, and a little bit from me too!! haha  see ya.  Dave

Oh,  I took Ginger to the Manahawkin Car Wash.  They have a dog wash room there, so got her even more shiny and  cleaner than normal. Her parents visited Saturday and Easter Sunday, so I couldn't have her looking like a ragamuffin (young people, ask your parents what a ragamuffin is,) when they see her, now could I? But she MAY be going home, to the Poconos next weekend, to   .....stay!! They're up there now for the week, doing a trial run to make sure everything is okay, and all, so, we'll see !!

So, Scooter, has a new groomer.  A van pulls into the driveway Monday morning, and we are happy as can be with this new set up and the results. But  poor Ginger was giving me the look, like  "I  gotta go to the CARWASH???!!?? And he gets his own truck to the house??!! Man oh man!!!"   Oh, stop, Ging, you do okay around here where the rule is,  "No dogs  OFF the furniture!!"  Dave

Walkers Needed!  Please help fill in the blanks in the schedule below, especially TOMORROW and Friday.

Green walkers please look for volunteers with the red dot on their badge.  They will help you with anything you need. You may always call me if you run into a problem or have any concerns. Fran - 609-660-0110

From Connie:

It has been asked of us volunteers to not come to the shelter during Rabies clinic. They are always so busy during one of these events, and since we cant walk dogs during this time it would be great if we were just there from 8:30 to 10:30 and then again after at 1:00. I know I was there one day and saw the madness and well I couldn't get out the door fast enough!!!!   CRAZY BUSY!!!

Flyer designed by Jennifer Baart
Baking sign-up sheet at the desk!

And the SPRING FLING at the shelter is the 21st of April!! We will be doing a bake sale again, selling some t-shirts and I will be ordering some WONDERFUL magnets for us to sell!! They go for $5.00, and we will have all sorts of sayings on them  and even one with a saying from Chris at the shelter!!! These are big money makers for the group at the North shelter!! So we will have the big paw, don't shop adopt and all kinds of sayings!!!  Ya hoo...!!

Also please go to the Amazon.com page, click on wish list, and type in Friends of Southern Ocean County Animal Shelter and  you can post it on your facebook page!!  There are a lot of great things on there and people are sending it to the Shelter!!!   We have received a Karunda bed, toys and dog and cat food already!! Thanks everyone for all the fund raising support!!  You are all so wonderful!!!

****************************************************************

From SOCAF Management:

All dogs need to be walked with two leashes at all times, whether they are being walked from the pen to their runs, or just a few feet.  No excuses, please!

The dogs must be on county property at all times when being walked.  They cannot be walked across the street or at the recycling plant.

Smoking is not allowed while walking dogs.

**********************************************************

TO ALL VOLUNTEERS:

If you see a dog limping, notice a lump, blood in the stool, etc., anything out of the ordinary, or if there is an incident with the dog, be sure to notify the supervisors, document the incident, and put it into the dog's file, keeping a copy for yourself.

********************************************************

Dog Walking Schedule:

Please check the dog-walking schedule below.
There are many days and time slots with little or no coverage.
Please e-mail me with the days and times you are able to cover.
If no one can cover, the dogs will either not get out in the morning or have to go back inside early on those days.

The minimum number of walkers needed by 8:30 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.

Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 8:30 a.m. every day!  Even if you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded.  New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs.  Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards.  Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important:  Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it!  Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage.  Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all.  We really need at least two people early in the morning--8 or 8:30--to get everyone out.

The mission statement of our group is to offer an additional avenue of care
for the animals that the Shelter cannot cope with. These are the animals that
have catastrophic physical problems or illnesses which need special medical care.
Animals that would otherwise have died or been euthanized and would have never
known the happiness of a loving home.

We also provide much needed support to the shelter. We help take care of physical
needs such as an industrial size washing machine, blankets, food, halters,
and an outdoor cat cage.  We also provided swinging "doggy doors" for all
the kennels at the shelter, thereby making it much more cost effective.
In the summer the heat stays out and in the winter the heat stays in.
These are just a small sample of the needs of the shelter we provide.
We are a local to LBI and Manahawkin organization. Our founders are
very active in the Southern Ocean County Animal Shelter and decided
they needed to more. So Dottie and Eleanor got together and made a
commitment to do what they could to make the animals lives at the
shelter as good as they could be, until they found a loving home.

FOSTER HELP NEEDED!!!
From Susan:
We are looking for volunteers to foster cats that need medical attention.  Medicine is usually administered from between 10-14 days.  This is not a very difficult thing to do.  You need a separate room to keep the cat away from your pets.

**********************************************************

KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED

If interested in helping out, please contact the shelter at socaf@ochd.org.

From Susan:

To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time.  Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X.  These cats are not friendly.
Thank You Susan
