From Pat, JT (now James Taylor) and Maisy (now Carly Simon).

I will send some pics very soon for JT and Carly. Four days no accidents. Extremely vigil but she really does seem to like her yard and her home. She sleeps all night in her bed and around 6 or so JT hops in our bed and she goes in his. She's really very easy. Had home vet here. Good as gold. Walks so nicely but have to walk separately. Don't want her to get JTs drama. Anyway-
Know she was meant for us. My husband Noel loves her but you can only imagine the guilty parent feeling . We try to accommodate. She is a love and JT is a good big brother as a shelter alumni!

Saturday's News from Dave:

Well, I thought we would have a chance of holding off the rain until noon, but alas, no luck. So we trudged onward through the drizzle nonetheless. Good work, CeCe, Cathy, John, and Casey.

Good pairings were easy to be had today, Oscar, and Bentley, followed up with, Skye and Harlow, and add in Rose and Tulip (is that the cutest Beagle ever??) Oh!!! It just hit me...ROSE and TULIP!!! That's funny!

B Siders like Anderson and Max got out, as everyone did a few times, just toweled off in between and on completion of the mornings walks.

NOTE: B siders  Patches, (Spaniel/Hound mix) and the 3 Puggles are being treated for parasites/worms. Be advised, they are walkable though, just no "Meet and Greet" room and no pack walking with healthy dogs.

Skye and Harlow were in full "Choir Practice" mode this morning too! 2 nice-sized, personable dogs, not to mention Skye's beautiful eyes. Harlow doesn't like her ears or paws fussed with, so be aware, she's not nasty or anything , just a little shy about being handled too much about those areas.

Had the opportunity to meet Bentley Thursday, and he is such a good looking, and pretty well behaved all around dog. Sits nice and calm , gorgeous guy. I have put him in my "All Time Top Five" list.   And you are wondering who qualified for that list?? Well, there's Kirby, a big Black Lab mix (looks like a big Irish Setter),  the fabulous McGee, a big black and white Spaniel/ Akita/?? mix, then there's the loveliest of all lasses, Swirlz , a doll. a gem , and hmmm lets see?  Probably Griffin, Groucho, and JohnnyBoy, and a beauty named  "OREO"!!! But we all have a Top Ten Thousand List really, huh? Whoever's on the end of your leash that walk feels like your top dog, so that's what really counts. (I wonder if I made any of the dogs "Top Five Humans" list ??? omigosh, gee whiz I hope so!!! That would be quite humbling if I was not considered, oh the thought of it pains me!!!)

You ever notice that even the excitable types take the peanut butter off your fingers sooooo gently?? That's kinda funny to me. Never chomp down, never rough about it, they just get so big eyed and happy to get some nice peanut butter .

With April showers rolling in, it's a good idea to use some of that silicone spray to waterproof your boots, sneakers etc, and also, spray your baseball cap with it too, and rain will roll right off the brim. Just a handy hint.

Now I'm sitting here thinking about all the dogs I left OFF the top five and feeling guilty because I keep coming up with ANOTHER one every two minutes. Oh well, that's what you get when you get to meet some cutie patooties around here, huh?

Dave and Oscar sharing a moment on a sunnier day.

Rainy day walk from Casey:
Today's rainy day doggie parade! John with Amber, Kathy with Oscar, Dave with Bentley & me hanging back with Rose!

Our Pet Food Pantry is currently located at the Ocean Community Church (72W) on Wednesday mornings between 10 am and 12 noon.  The Church volunteers are thrilled to have dog and cat food to distribute.  Please pass around to friends and family that we need ongoing pet food donations (smaller bags, if possible, would be helpful). Please drop any food at the Shelter.  If you have any questions, please call Claire at 609-549-5243.

Dog Walking Schedule:
The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.

Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day!  Even if   you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded.  New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs.  Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards.  Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important:  Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it!  Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage.  Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all.  We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.
*Please try to notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week, if possible. You may also call, e-mail, or text me at 709-4140 by 8:30 a.m. on the day you wish to come in. I will then put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.  You may come in as long as there aren't already the maximum number of walkers on that particular day or shift.
Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.
Please make sure no dogs are left outside or in the meet-and-greet room when the last volunteer leaves.
REMINDER:  Every Tuesday is surgery day.  Find out who is having surgery when you come to walk the dogs.
New Red Walker Policy:  New red walkers must be accompanied by another red walker for a period of several weeks.  New red walkers have a double asterisk by their names.

KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED

If interested in helping out, please contact the shelter at socaf@ochd.org.
From Susan:

To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time.  Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X.  These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.
Thank You, Susan
