Red Walking Help Needed
Wednesday Morning and other days later in the week.

Please review the schedule and let me know if you can help.
*******************************

From Joanna:
The Eskie rode shot gun while Mom and other Shepherd sat in the back seat. Bishop got the way back.

They walked so comfortably together. I truly believe the dynamics of this day happened exactly the way they were supposed too.

Bishop failed the GSGSR temp test for being too nervous. Then a couple from Ewing was coming and we had to wait and see if their St. Bernard pup would be a fit. She was gentle, but wanted to play and would touch Bishop's face with her paw. SO SWEET. But Bishop was backing away.

THEN IT HAPPENED........
Everyone stood around, Rescue, shelter, and volunteers all watched Bishop find his pack.

When this couple finally showed up at 3:00 with their two dogs--another German Shepherd and an Eskie--it was like a Godsend. The 3 walked in a pack formation, all followers, no leaders at this point (just the humans) .

They lost their Alpha Shep (also male) 3 weeks ago to bloat and were so happy to hear Bishop was already tacked .

They were beyond perfect and as
I'm typing this in my car outside the shelter I still have chills.
Yay for Bishop and Zeke!!!!

From Joan:
Oscar: spent some time working with Oscar and Diamond, on their self control and jumping. Both sweet pups. Had some special time with Oscar enjoying the sunshine.

Our Pet Food Pantry is currently located at the Ocean Community Church (72W) on Wednesday mornings between 10 am and 12 noon.  The Church volunteers are thrilled to have dog and cat food to distribute.  Please pass around to friends and family that we need ongoing pet food donations (smaller bags, if possible, would be helpful). Please drop any food at the Shelter.  If you have any questions, please call Claire at 609-549-5243.

Dog Walking Schedule:
The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.

Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day!  Even if   you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded.  New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs.  Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards.  Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important:  Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it!  Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage.  Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all.  We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.
*Please try to notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week, if possible. You may also call, e-mail, or text me at 709-4140 by 8:30 a.m. on the day you wish to come in. I will then put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.  You may come in as long as there aren't already the maximum number of walkers on that particular day or shift.
Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.
Please make sure no dogs are left outside or in the meet-and-greet room when the last volunteer leaves.
REMINDER:  Every Tuesday is surgery day.  Find out who is having surgery when you come to walk the dogs.
New Red Walker Policy:  New red walkers must be accompanied by another red walker for a period of several weeks.  New red walkers have a double asterisk by their names.

If interested in helping out, please contact the shelter at socaf@ochd.org.
From Susan:

To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time.  Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X.  These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.
Thank You, Susan

Hi Dog Walkers, If you will, please get the days and times you will be able to walk dogs in the upcoming week to Joanne Eckert no later than Sunday night each week.  I need to turn in the schedule to the HD on Monday mornings.  Thanks so much for volunteering your time for the animals! It is greatly appreciated!!

Love our dogs? Then adopt one as a Shelter Pup and FRIENDS will get a portion of the sale! Shelter Pups has turned a select group of dogs from our shelter into amazing and realistic plush pups. Check out Casper and wonderful Sherman! It's a great way to “adopt” one of our dogs and help our volunteer FRIENDS group at the same time. Shelter Pups can also make customs of your very own dog.
