Thursday's Update from Dave:
It IS apparently true that the most affectionate thing in the world is a wet dog! After skirting the rain for the most part, for forever, we finally got caught in a bit of rain. Good work, Kathy, and Leslie! Leslie was immediately put in charge of getting the "Green Team" out and done, and she was up to the task. That's Riley, Buddy, Bo, Ernest, Alice, Mantis, and even Foxy. But on a warm July day, the dogs were no worse for wear being out in the drizzle, as it beats the inside for a few hours at least.
Today's lineup: 2-Sirus 3- Ruby 4-Felix 5-Danni 6-Gucci. 7 would've been Bailey, but she has new stitches/surgery, so she had the meet and greet for most of the morning between walks.
Diesel was out early, walked by staff, Erica, at 8:45am.
I was on a second, then third dry shirt by noon with the rinse/dry/repeat cycle in full effect, and ended up, courtesy of Ruby, with a perfect muddy paw print on my shorts! How could I NOT get her footie print on me?
Word for today- GAMUT, as we have dogs of all sizes; they run the gamut. So get your green, or red, or yellow walking shoes on, and grab one to your liking!
Oh, Bailey is a very lovely gal, a young, super shiny, black and white boxer/Mix; you will love her. Great walker, nice dog. And Tank, being Tank, a terrific personality, B side for now, another grrreat woof. Joy to be around. B side
When you walk Danni, it is so easy if you give her a chewbone or something to carry. She carried a white nylabone, and Gucci walked with a stick too, and and as it usually is, they wanted the other guys! Actually walked both for a time; both had an end of Danni's nylabone!! How cute!!
Walk pairs today were Danni and Gooch (I mean Gucci), and Sirus and Bailey, though separated.
B side, tan and white boxer mix, Bronco, walks great, not dog friendly, supposedly, good, easy walker, pretty boy. Avoid dogs, but don't avoid him; he's neat.
I will be in tomorrow, tour at 1030, so if you can swing it, stop by, we'll get them out, along with Kathy and Carol, we'll get it done! Dave
Dog Walking Schedule:
The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.
Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day! Even if you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded. New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs. Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards. Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important: Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it! Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage. Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all. We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.
*Please try to notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week.
If you don't know your availability a week in advance and see we need help the next day, just send me an e-mail by 10 p.m. the night before, and I will put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.
Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.
Please make sure no dogs are left outside or in the meet-and-greet room when the last volunteer leaves.

**KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED ASAP**
We are in need of fosters for our Bottle Baby kittens!
It's that time of the year again. We need willing fosters who
can handle a litter of bottle babies, which require round-the-clock feeding. Yes, this means night time as well! We supply all the necessities, including a cage. Compensation will be given for your loving time and devotion.
We also need regular kitten fosters, as well, for a maximum of three kittens. Please contact Susan at pink49puffer@inbox.com if you would like to help us during this time! Thank you so much!

KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED
If interested in helping out, please contact the shelter at socaf@ochd.org.
From Susan:
To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time. Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X. These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.
Thank You, Susan

Special Thanks to Jennifer for taking these pics and for keeping us updated as to which cats are where.

Hi Dog Walkers, If you will, please get the days and times you will be able to walk dogs in the upcoming week to Joanne Eckert no later than Sunday night each week. I need to turn in the schedule to the HD on Monday mornings. Thanks so much for volunteering your time for the animals! It is greatly appreciated!!

Love our dogs? Then adopt one as a Shelter Pup and FRIENDS will get a portion of the sale! Shelter Pups has turned a select group of dogs from our shelter into amazing and realistic plush pups. Check out Casper and wonderful Sherman! It's a great way to “adopt” one of our dogs and help our volunteer FRIENDS group at the same time. Shelter Pups can also make customs of your very own dog. Check it out and bring one of our dogs home as a Shelter Pup!

Smoking is not allowed while walking dogs.
When walking dogs, please do not allow dogs to jump up onto any vehicles.

TO ALL VOLUNTEERS:
