Walking Help Needed
**************************************************************

To our new walkers who may not know how to begin, just hit Reply on this email or send a new one to me at jeckert30@comcast.net and tell me when you would like to start.

A new round of management training will take place soon.  I will let you know when I have a date.

From Kelly:  All dog walkers...can you do me a favor and either PM me or email me your contact info and include email address and cell number? You can email me at kellyhennessy613@gmail.com. I'm trying to update our files.

*****************************************************************
NEW POLICY From Dottie:

I was talking to Trish about how to encourage more dog walkers.  She said volunteers could text me
(609) 709-4140
ANYTIME during the day if you find you can come in to walk.  If walking schedule not full you can tell the shelter that you can walk.  Melony had also said you can call shelter directly and if not too many walkers (we wish) you could come in.

**********************************
Dog Walking Schedule:

Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day!  Even if you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
**Reactive dogs?  Give them a ball or toy to carry as you take them out.****
The dogs are color coded.  New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs.  Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards.  Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important:  Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it!  Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage.  Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all.  We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.
*Please try to notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week, if possible. You may also call, e-mail, or text me at 709-4140 by 8:30 a.m. on the day you wish to come in. I will then put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.  You may come in as long as there aren't already the maximum number of walkers on that particular day or shift.
Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.
Please make sure no dogs are left outside or in the meet-and-greet room when the last volunteer leaves.
PLEASE do not block the mailbox when you come in to walk dogs! Leave enough space for the mail truck to pull in and out.
Red walkers are underscored.

"We are beginning a new year 2016 and as a reminder, I am in the process of collecting annual membership dues of $10 from volunteers involved in all Friend's activities.  If you are volunteering at the shelter, this membership application will now be included with the upcoming 2016 packet.  Please complete the packet and include the $10 membership dues if you haven't done so already.  If you are not at the shelter, please go to our website fosocas.org, click on information, download the application and mail with your dues as instructed.  We have already made a big difference in the lives of cats and dogs and I hope this year we can do even more with your help.  Thank you,Anne Nowosad-Treasurer"

Please help by printing and hanging this flyer to help advertise our Shelter and wonderful pets for adoption. Simply pin on a bulletin board at your local library, post office, town hall, laundry mat, etc. or ask a store owner, restaurant,  if you can hang in their window or wall.   More exposure means more adoptions. Pass on to a friend to place one somewhere as well, the more the better!

If you’d like to make it two-sided for hanging in a window,  print two, place back to back and tape together in the middle.
Also, it’s not necessary, but if you’d like to laminate a flyer they have laminate pouches at Staples and Office Max.
Thank you for getting the word out for our pets waiting for their forever home.

We have a new "Special Project" classification as the weather warms up and the dogs are put outside in the runs. Volunteers would sign in as usual and be on the schedule, but they would not walk dogs. Their only duty is to sit outside when the dogs are in the runs and keep an eye on them so others are free to walk, mornings only when the public isn't around.  This change is perfect for experienced volunteers who don't feel comfortable walking the tough guys on any particular day.

Email me if you would be interested in sitting in the sun with the dogs.

A gentleman called who has adopted cats from us.  His daughter who has 2 rescue cats, not from us, has been hospitalized.  She loves the cats and wants them back, but she is kenneling them now which gets expensive.  The are black and white male adults.  Need a home for 1 to 2 months.  Can anyone help her.  For more information call Roy at 609 276-8704.

Please don't leave big, strong dogs unsupervised in Run #1, as a strong dog might be able to break out.

****************************************************************

Our Pet Food Pantry is currently located at the Ocean Community Church (72W) on Wednesday mornings between 10 am and 12 noon.  The Church volunteers are thrilled to have dog and cat food to distribute.  Please pass around to friends and family that we need ongoing pet food donations (smaller bags, if possible, would be helpful). Please drop any food at the Shelter.  If you have any questions, please call Claire at 609-549-5243.
