Dog Walking Schedule:
The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.
Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day! Even if you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded. New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs. Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards. Red walkers' names in red type.

Important: Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it! Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage. Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all. We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.
*Please try to notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week, if possible. You may also call, e-mail, or text me at 709-4140 by 8:30 a.m. on the day you wish to come in. I will then put you on the schedule and notify the shelter. You may come in as long as there aren't already the maximum number of walkers on that particular day or shift.
Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.
Please make sure no dogs are left outside or in the meet-and-greet room when the last volunteer leaves.
REMINDER: Every Tuesday is surgery day. Find out who is having surgery when you come to walk the dogs.
New Red Walker Policy: New red walkers must be accompanied by another red walker for a period of several weeks. New red walkers have a double asterisk by their names.

I am almost done with the 2015 paperwork (daughter is home sick today). You have until the end of January to complete this, otherwise you will not be permitted to walk dogs.
Here is what we will need to do:
I am going to leave a signature sheet at the front desk at the shelter. Please sign this after you have reviewed the dog walking rules (I will leave a copy on top of the filing cabinet), and have picked up your application. PLEASE DATE THE APPLICATION WITH 1/2015! The only pages I have included in the application (this only pertains to current volunteers) are the necessary ones for the HD as well as our Hold Harmless form. I am saving a lot of paper doing it this way. For those that are also cat room volunteers, please pick up a cat room rules package at the shelter as I do not have them. Any questions, please let me know.
I should have these over to the shelter by the end of the week.
Thanks for your attention to this necessary matter!!!

Dave's Sunny Cold Sunday News
Oooookay, it is Winter for real, a 32-degree start, ended in the low 40's by noon, not so bad at all! It was welcomed by dogs and walkers alike. Sunshine!
Hey, I stopped at Petsmart on the way home, and what to my wondrous eyes did appear. was 2 big lovely friends from yesteryear!! The fabulous LARRY and ZIPPER!! I got a chance to say hello and give a little backrubbing etc. Isn't the best when you run into someone like that? I said to Jen, "Of course I have no idea what YOUR name is but I know who these two are!" Thats funny,huh? You all know the feeling .
Nice walk day from Casey,Kathy R and Linda C. We gallopped a lotta woofs out there on the prairie today, the sweet as pie Hazel, Ellie, the brindle pittie, nice girl, walks great, enjoyed looong walk with her, and Eleanor, another good looking Brindle Pit/Boxer mix.
There is a Brindle on B Side, Run # 16, just came in this morning, is completely identical to Ellie, I mean, identical. I put Ellie in , A Side, walked in on the B Side, and literally said to Casey, " Who moved her (Ellie) ? I just put her back ! " I was confused ( more than normally, I mean.) Perfect example of "know who you got and where they go ".
The 3 legged Tan Pittie got reclaimed .
Hey, Noelle, black and white mix, does she look just like another old friend of ours, but a 2/3rds version, of McGee??
Noelle walks good, seems to like dogs, is a little nervous or just high energy, an attractive dog , and nice sized too.
Some people dropped off a lot of food and supplies, and with all of our spoiled pooches and felines getting new goodies, toys, and sweaters, and the like, don't forget to recycle that good useable stuff right back here, where it'll be used and appreciated.
And for those who don't believe it's winter , check out last weeks view of Vermont, pretty, right? Have a safe happy holiday, ,Hanukkah, and Merry Christmas to all !

Our Pet Food Pantry is currently located at the Ocean Community Church (72W) on Wednesday mornings between 10 am and 12 noon. The Church volunteers are thrilled to have dog and cat food to distribute. Please pass around to friends and family that we need ongoing pet food donations (smaller bags, if possible, would be helpful). Please drop any food at the Shelter.
