Dog Walking Schedule:

The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.

Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day!  Even if   you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded.  New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs.  Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards.  Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important:  Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it!  Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage.  Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all.  We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.
*Please try to notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week, if possible. You may also call, e-mail, or text me at 709-4140 by 8:30 a.m. on the day you wish to come in. I will then put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.  You may come in as long as there aren't already the maximum number of walkers on that particular day or shift.
Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.
Please make sure no dogs are left outside or in the meet-and-greet room when the last volunteer leaves.
REMINDER:  Every Tuesday is surgery day.  Find out who is having surgery when you come to walk the dogs.
New Red Walker Policy:  New red walkers must be accompanied by another red walker for a period of several weeks.  New red walkers have a double asterisk by their names.

Gemma's Freedom ride
Anonymous kitty

Thursday's Update from Dave:

Little cool at the start this morning, but quickly warmed up with warm hearts and wagging tails! Off to Pack Ethic went Shep, Kairos, and Quest. (Kairos was a sweet boy, really grew on you, got along with all, tolerated Apollos puppyness, walked well, a handsome lug.) I couldn't really tell for sure, but it looked like QUEST was gonna drive the first leg of the trip! oooh brother!!!

Thanks to the Road crew, Joanna and Dawn.  Off they went at 1000 am. Good day outta Claire, Sydney, and Louise as well!

Good to see the tan pair of Milo and Gemma go yesterday, a couple of underrated under the radar types, ya know, nice, good dogs with maybe not the omigosh factor, winners though. Gemma would balk at me getting her out, but then warmed up. Linda C. would say "You're really trying to get her to love you back aren't you?" (Story I may have heard before!!)

Speaking of omigosh factor, the cute Karma, what a treasure, good walker, lovey dovey, real treat to be with, as well as Jersey, still skinny, but walks great with Karma, a good pair to be out with, as well as Laney who is pretty darn good with everyone too.

TJ (Black Lab) and Riley (Chocolate Lab) another perfect walking pair, all they need is 4 feet and off you go.

Is it me , or does  "G", B sider, look like a  French Bulldog on steroids??   Yikes he's big and a little harder to walk, but take one look and you'll see. Hey! He also has cool markings and has a heart on his right side, I kid you not!

Apollo has all the indications of being a terrific dog with a little maturity (oh oh! maturity! that word?? whats wrong with being a little less adult like?) He just needs a little guidance, direction, and of course, an outlet for his youthful energy. Cute houndy face too! Big brown moon eyes don't hurt either.

Daisy, the Bassett Hound/Something, Springer maybe? B Side, a easy-squeasy one too.

Go slow with the A sider Papillon, you know how the little ones can be a little squirmy, nervous, what is SHE doing in the big boy factory?

Alrighty, hey whoever has been keeping the leash/harness rack neat, thanks, good work!   Dave

Please don't leave big, strong dogs unsupervised in Run #1, as a strong dog might be able to break out.

***Cat food needed!***
Our Pet Food Pantry is currently located at the Ocean Community Church (72W) on Wednesday mornings between 10 am and 12 noon.  The Church volunteers are thrilled to have dog and cat food to distribute.  Please pass around to friends and family that we need ongoing pet food donations (smaller bags, if possible, would be helpful). Please drop any food at the Shelter.  If you have any questions, please call Claire at 609-549-5243.

Here's an easy way for anyone who walks to make a little money for our shelter, and it's free for anyone who has a smartphone.

Summer's a great time to help Friends of Southern Ocean County Animal Shelter just by sharing.  Tell your friends, even friends who support some other cause or charity. Each person who joins iGive in July for the first time can mean $5 automatically donated to his or her cause ... no purchase necessary!  All they need to do is try the iGive Button through 10/15/14.

The person who gets the most new members to join iGive in July and try the Button through 10/15/14 earns $1,000 for his or her cause - no matter what cause or charity the new members they invited choose to support.  $500 prizes go to the second and third place winners' causes.

Share your special Tell A Friend link to get credit for the contest (it's the only way to get credit).

Go get the special link from:

At your Tell A Friend page you'll also be able to see which of your friends are helping you win Friends of Southern Ocean County Animal Shelter one of those sweet prizes.

Why share with your friends? -

You could win $1,000 or $500 for Friends of Southern Ocean County Animal Shelter.

The average shopper is raising over $30 - $100 a year for their cause ... all for free.
It's simple and automatic..
Five bucks free, just for trying us out.

KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED

If interested in helping out, please contact the shelter at socaf@ochd.org.
From Susan:

To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time.  Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X.  These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.
Thank You, Susan
