As you will see below, we again have a gaping hole in the schedule for Wednesday and Friday mornings.  Please let me know if you can help.
********************************
Sunday's Sunny News, from Dave:

Well, what happens when you mix in a chilly morning , with 5 pairs of leashes and legs, with some of the nicest pups this side of the Pecos? Ya get a lot of good dogs out and about, and a dog like little Daisy gets a bath from Catherine, and stuff gets done!! And by 9:30, sweatshirts and hoodies were being peeled off, as it really turned into "one of those days".
Good walk-work from Linda, John, Kathy and Catherine.

The lineup today:   2-Amy  3- Homer  4-Max and Daisy split time    (Max is a Beaxeagler, a Boxer Beagle mix, and when you see him you get it. Daisy (not the little black and white Shih Tzu, but a white / brindle Pit female, nice, shy, loves dogs) 5- Benjamin  6-Reeses 7- Lily  8- Millie

Daisy got a nice bath from Catherine(lLl Daisy), and Mysty, Millie, and all walkables got plenty of stroll time.

Big  Daisy is a little shy at first, but give her some time and be easy. She comes around a bit. Few of us mixed it up with her in run #4 when Max was out, and she obviously likes dogs and will come over and nuzzle with you if you sit in there.  I took her alone for a real good long walk, and we had a nice chat and spent some time sitting in the grass enjoying our Sunday.  Max is a neat looking dog, has a cropped boxer tail, and when you look at him, it's like you see the Boxer, then see the Beagle. Great size, good temperament.

Hey, yesterdays news with Jersey, Walt, and Dakota going home was really nice to see, huh?  You are all a part of that when stuff like that occurs, so good work!!!

If you came in, took the tour, and haven't really gotten back here, you are missing some good stuff, but more importantly, if you can squeeze two hours a week--that's it--into coming down, you are making an invaluable contribution to getting good dogs (and grrrreat cats ) home and socialized and comfortable around people and other dogs. Don't let "someone else do it."  We know it can be somewhat intimidating and all with the harnesses and energetic dogs in the morning, but give it a chance and work a day or two with a few experienced volunteers, and it'll work out. Hey, I remember my first day!!! I was no way no how reaching into a PITBULL'S run and hooking her up!! I was a nervous wreck. It was a brown pittie mama named Chino with a scar on her head, and I was all ohoh about her. There were times some of us carried her back from a walk, so you look, and you learn. But as we have come to see, there are all types, shapes and sizes, (BOODAH!!) so you get your  choice of who you wanna spend time with.

Oh, and I believe since I've been coming down here,  the pitbulls and all have probably complained more about ME biting THEM!!! Can't help it, they are delicious!! Those foldies are simply irresistible!! So, come on in, and don't miss the furfest!! That's a great day to soak up some on the job training and enjoy a nice day of fun, food, and of course,,,,fur !!!

And ,speaking of good dogs and good stories,,,,,,I wonder how Casper is doing out there?? Please send photos; that was a nice dog and a better story.
Oh, take a look at Benjamin. Doesn't he have  "JonnyBoy ears exactly!!! Now that was a MISCHIEF dog!!! The mere thought of him makes volunteers who knew him just bust out into a big grin!!!

And that's what you get outta coming down here; you build your own little treasure chest of good stories, full of good animals, and you get to keep that, free of charge.    Dave

More of Max:

Max, adopted today

***************************************

From Facebook:  Dakota has claimed her new bed.

Update Tyson from Joanna:

Tyson is doing very well. He has come a long way in 6 days. He is meeting a couple on Sunday so we will let you know if he gets adopted. He is a real character. Loves Abby & all he wants to do is play with her. He is alot bigger & she gives it right back to him. She is actually a little fresh , but he does not have a mean bone in his body. He hates his crate, so now he sleeps next to our bed at night. Typical puppy, gets into everything, but is getting better. Mark & I both said he better leave soon or ELSE!!! I'll keep you posted.

Google appears to have resolved the problem of sending only half of each e-mailed edition of the blog, at least for now.  If, however, you stop seeing the dogs at the bottom of the e-mails again or are missing a few cats, remember to go to the blog itself.  The link is always in my signature block at the bottom of this page and at the top of the page beneath the shelter's info.

From SOCAF Management:

All dogs need to be walked with two leashes at all times, whether they are being walked from the pen to their runs, or just a few feet.  No excuses, please!

The dogs must be on county property at all times when being walked.  They cannot be walked IN the street or across the street.

Smoking is not allowed while walking dogs.

NEW:  When walking dogs, please do not allow dogs to jump up onto any vehicles.

**********************************************************
TO ALL VOLUNTEERS:

If you see a dog limping, notice a lump, blood in the stool, etc., anything out of the ordinary, or if there is an incident with the dog, be sure to notify the supervisors, document the incident, and put it into the dog's file, keeping a copy for yourself.
********************************************************

Dog Walking Schedule:

Please check the dog-walking schedule below.
There are many days and time slots with little or no coverage.
Please e-mail me with the days and times you are able to cover.
If no one can cover, the dogs will either not get out in the morning or have to go back inside early on those days.
The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.

Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day!  Even if   you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded.  New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs.  Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards.  Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important:  Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it!  Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage.  Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all.  We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.

*Please make sure you notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week!
If you don't know your availability a week in advance and see we need help the next day, just send me an e-mail by 10 p.m. the night before, and I will put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.

Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.

REMINDER:  Every Tuesday is surgery day.  Find out who is having surgery when you come to walk the dogs.

FOSTER HELP NEEDED!!!
From Susan:
We are looking for volunteers to foster cats that need medical attention.  Medicine is usually administered from between 10-14 days.  This is not a very difficult thing to do.  You need a separate room to keep the cat away from your pets.
******************************************************
KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED

If interested in helping out, please contact the shelter at socaf@ochd.org.
From Susan:

To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time.  Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X.  These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.
Thank You, Susan
