Dog Walking Schedule:

Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day!  Even if you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
**Reactive dogs?  Give them a ball or toy to carry as you take them out.****
The dogs are color coded.  New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs.  Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards.  Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important:  Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it!  Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage.  Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all.  We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.
*Please try to notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week, if possible. You may also call, e-mail, or text me at 709-4140 by 8:30 a.m. on the day you wish to come in. I will then put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.  You may come in as long as there aren't already the maximum number of walkers on that particular day or shift.
Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.
Please make sure no dogs are left outside or in the met-and-greet room when the last volunteer leaves.
PLEASE do not block the mailbox when you come in to walk dogs! Leave enough space for the mail truck to pull in and out.
Red walkers are underscored.

***As per management, please remove one of the martingales from the dogs, leaving one on at the end of the day, and always take off harnesses. Never leave one on at the end of the day. Thanks so much.***

Dog Walking:  Volunteer hours are every day from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., 5 p.m. on Wednesdays.
Cat volunteer hours are every day from 1 to 4 pm
*******************************************
Saturday, July 23rd was a day to bark and meow about.  More than 20,000 animals were adopted from nearly 700 shelters who took part in the NBC Clear the Shelters Day.  Among the adoptions were the 46 animals adopted at NOCAF and SOCAF,  Due to the dedication and beautiful cooperation between the Friends of SOCAF, the Shelter Saviors, and the competent staff working together, 5 dogs and 18 cats were adopted!  (One cat was brought back Saturday and exchanged for a kitten.)  Here it is, 5 days later, and all but one dog remain in the adopters' home.  It was a day to remember, and hopefully repeated many times.

Thank you,
Dottie Reynolds

Please help by printing and hanging this flyer to help advertise our Shelter and wonderful pets for adoption. Simply pin on a bulletin board at your local library, post office, town hall, laundry mat, etc. or ask a store owner, restaurant,  if you can hang in their window or wall.   More exposure means more adoptions. Pass on to a friend to place one somewhere as well, the more the better!

If you’d like to make it two-sided for hanging in a window,  print two, place back to back and tape together in the middle.
Also, it’s not necessary, but if you’d like to laminate a flyer they have laminate pouches at Staples and Office Max.
Thank you for getting the word out for our pets waiting for their forever home.

We have a new "Special Project" classification as the weather warms up and the dogs are put outside in the runs. Volunteers would sign in as usual and be on the schedule, but they would not walk dogs. Their only duty is to sit outside when the dogs are in the runs and keep an eye on them so others are free to walk, mornings only when the public isn't around.  This change is perfect for experienced volunteers who don't feel comfortable walking the tough guys on any particular day.

Email me if you would be interested in sitting in the sun with the dogs.

***********************************************************
Please don't leave big, strong dogs unsupervised in Run #1, as a strong dog might be able to break out.

****************************************************************Our Pet Food Pantry is currently located at the Ocean Community Church (72W) on Wednesday mornings between 10 am and 12 noon.  The Church volunteers are thrilled to have dog and cat food to distribute.  Please pass around to friends and family that we need ongoing pet food donations (smaller bags, if possible, would be helpful). Please drop any food at the Shelter.  If you have any questions, please call Claire at 609-549-5243.
