From Connie:
Hi there!
Then event "Second chance at Love " will be held at Petsmart on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday the 14th, 15th, and 16th of February. Patty Ryerson and Joanna have Sunday covered. Friday and Saturday need coverage which will entail getting the table from the shed and the two folding chairs. I will have the money jug with flyer attached to it and the available animals poster ready in there to go, as well. These things will have to be returned to the shed after each day for the next group. We also have to figure out how to get the "left-over baked goods" to the events the next day. They will definitely last overnight with the cold, but we have no place to store. Let's work this out for a great weekend! Please email jeckert30@comcast.net with your ability to bake or table sit.
**********
Bakers and Table Sitters
Friday: Pat D., Connie and Dottie are baking, Dottie, Joanne, and Pat are table sitting)
Saturday: Joan and Connie are baking, still need a table sitter.
Sunday: Connie, Patty, and Joanna are baking, Joanna and Patty are table sitting.
Joanna - table on Sunday and bake Sunday and one other day.
Liz - wherever needed most
******
We are looking for another location for the Pet Food Pantry, but drop-offs are still allowed at the shelter.
Thanks everyone for all you do for the group! We need and appreciate each and every one of you!

From Kelly to all dog walkers/transporters:
For all volunteers: Please pick up a 2014 application at the shelter. They are located on top of the filing cabinet in the locker room. EVERYONE needs to fill one out at the beginning of every year. It must be dated between 1/1/14 and 1/31/14. Please fill it out and return them. I will be collecting them throughout the month. Thank you!
Also, anyone who transports animals to rescue, vet, etc.: Please make a copy of your license and registration and either give it to Kelly or attach it to your completed 2014 application.

Dog Walking Schedule:
The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.
Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day! Even if you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded. New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs. Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards. Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important: Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it! Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage. Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all. We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.
*Please try to notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week.
**UPDATE: Because sometimes you may not know even the night before if you will be able to come in and walk dogs the next day, it is now acceptable for you to call, e-mail, or text me, not the shelter, by 8:30 a.m. on the day you want to come in. I will then put you on the schedule and notify management. You can come in as long as there aren't the maximum number of walkers scheduled for that particular day and shift.
Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.
Please make sure no dogs are left outside or in the meet-and-greet room when the last volunteer leaves.
REMINDER: Every Tuesday is surgery day. Find out who is having surgery when you come to walk the dogs.
New Red Walker Policy: New red walkers must be accompanied by another red walker for a period of several weeks. New red walkers have a double asterisk by their names.

KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED
If interested in helping out, please contact the shelter at socaf@ochd.org.
From Susan:
To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time. Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X. These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.
Thank You, Susan

PLEASE take a moment to watch this video to understand how to use HL correctly.
Our Food Pantry at the shelter could use a little boost!!! We need dog, puppy, cat, and kitten food!! We have five drop-off spots, too:
The shelter in Manahawkin, SBR Tire Exchange in Manahawkin, Lucky's Bed and Biscuit in Manahawkin, Uncle Wills Pancake House in Beach Haven, and Wally Mitchells Restaurant in Surf City.
******************************************************
Hi Dog Walkers, If you will, please get the days and times you will be able to walk dogs in the upcoming week to Joanne Eckert no later than Sunday night each week. I need to turn in the schedule to the HD on Monday mornings. Thanks so much for volunteering your time for the animals! It is greatly appreciated!!
**********************************************************
Love our dogs? Then adopt one as a Shelter Pup and FRIENDS will get a portion of the sale! Shelter Pups has turned a select group of dogs from our shelter into amazing and realistic plush pups. Check out Casper and wonderful Sherman! It's a great way to “adopt” one of our dogs and help our volunteer FRIENDS group at the same time. Shelter Pups can also make customs of your very own dog. Check it out and bring one of our dogs home as a Shelter Pup!
