Good Friday's Quick News, from Dave:

Just me, Kathy and Barry there for 'quick relief walks' and that was about it, due to today being the county holiday. Oh well, still a nice day to see the handsome Turk and some B Siders, as well.   Kathy had Turk all ready and halfway out the door, and saw me giving him the moomoo eyes and said, " Oh, here, take him, stop moaning!!" Haha! A little pouting goes a looong way sometimes!!

The Black Lab mix, who has such pretty subtle undertones of brown or sable, is a shy guy, but once out, is a dream. Appears to love dogs as well, so we'll see.

The very skinny black Boxer, being fed 3x a day, is a lovebug. Tall , thin, young. Will do ok here.

On B side, #15, Jackson, the Jack Russell/ Terrier mix, is a cute scruffy guy. I always think I love big dogs, but he is a terrific little guy. Sweet, easy to pick up and handle. Bounce in his step, but what Jack Russell DOESN'T have a BOUNCE in them?? Not jumpy, just good attitude there.

Saw a Husky get reclaimed too. Otis got a couple good walks. Hopefully he's packing up his stuff tomorrow!!

That's it. See ya Sunday morning. ...... And Turk, I will be seeing YOU in particular, Sunday! So, get your rest. We will be off on a real good stroll!!!

This spring weather may hit us any time now, so grab a dog, a leash, and hang on!!!

Dog Walking Schedule:

The minimum number of walkers needed by 9:00 a.m. is two in order to handle the task of getting dogs out for their first morning walk.

Volunteers are really needed early in the morning, 9:00 a.m. every day!  Even if   you can only help for a half hour or an hour, it would help.
The dogs are color coded.  New volunteers may NOT walk Red dogs.  Please pay attention to the color coding and the cage cards.  Red walkers' names in red type.
***************************
Important:  Please do not sign up for a shift if you aren't sure you can make it!  Other volunteers come in if there isn't enough coverage.  Some people have signed up for shifts and have been either late or not shown up at all.  We really need at least two people early in the morning--9:00--to get everyone out.

*Please make sure you notify me of your walking plans by Sunday night each week!
If you don't know your availability a week in advance and see we need help the next day, just send me an e-mail by 10 p.m. the night before, and I will put you on the schedule and notify the shelter.

Maximum number of walkers in the morning is 6 at one time, 4 in the afternoon.
Please make sure no dogs are left outside or in the meet-and-greet room when the last volunteer leaves.

REMINDER:  Every Tuesday is surgery day.  Find out who is having surgery when you come to walk the dogs.

Rabies Clinic is the 2nd. and 4th. Wednesday of the month. Dogs must be back inside by 10:30 on Clinic days.

FOSTER HELP NEEDED!!!
From Susan:
We are looking for volunteers to foster cats that need medical attention.  Medicine is usually administered from between 10-14 days.  This is not a very difficult thing to do.  You need a separate room to keep the cat away from your pets.
******************************************************
KITTEN FOSTERS NEEDED

If interested in helping out, please contact the shelter at socaf@ochd.org.
From Susan:

To all volunteers who wish to socialize with the cats when I am not there, PLEASE take only one cat out at a time.  Cats that should not be taken out have an X with a circle around the X.  These cats need time to adjust to the shelter.
Thank You, Susan
